factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

Has anyone hooked up the factory xm radio tuner to an aftermarket head unit? My cd player no longer works so im looking to possibly replace it. buying an aftermarket xm tuner is not an option.

Thanks!

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

Don't think the factory XM tuner is compatible with any aftermarket radio... I had to get an matching aftermarket XM tuner for mine. The only thing I can think of is to get a newer factory radio...

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

I know some people use their OEM XM antenna with their aftermarket tuner.

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

i can tell you right now that the chances of using anything more than the antennae is slim. the older GM cars and trucks had a plug that would work on the aftermarket units not sure if this is true anymore.

i can gaureentee that you will need a aftermarket stereo thats sat radio ready the appropriate tuner box (XM or sirius) then the sat tuner will come with a small magnetic antennae or you might be able to use your factory XM antennae

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

I know on my 07 it was not compatable with an aftermarket.
Ended up getting an ipod and don't miss XM one bit, really sucked after the merger.
If I remember correctly it was about $200 additional to hookup the XM to the aftermarket headunit. Not worth it to me.

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

Got the ipod hookup also, i rather control whats on anyway. Idk if mine was $200 for the xm hookup but it mightve been close, i have never even subscribed so it was kinda a waste but whatever at least i have the chance too.

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

I love my mp3 player. But I really loved my XM. Wish I could have done this. I love my dvd player, but wish i could find a way to do this exact same thing! If all I could use is the ant. At least I would probally still do it.

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

This sucks. I have free XM. I guess I will have to do without a cd player. Or try fixing it myself.

Re: factory xm tuner with aftermarket radio

The only part of the OEM XM setup you can use on an aftermarket HU is the antenna. Your options are -- buy another OEM HU, or buy an aftermarket HU and XM adapter for it. Sorry
