GM still considering what to do

GM's still considering what to do with the mid-size trucks:
GM Said to Study New Models Including Smaller Minivan, Pickup - Bloomberg

Hard to tell from "considering" on where they'll end up though. Not really news but at least they're "considering" and not giving up to Toyota.

Re: GM still considering what to do

From the article...

Quote:
Midsize Pickup

GM is also looking at a new midsize pickup entry. The company sells the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon now, which are scheduled to be phased out in 2012. GM is looking at making a new model based on a pickup the company sells in emerging markets, one of the people said.

The small and midsize pickup market is a tough business in the U.S. right now. Sales fell 5.6 percent in the first seven months of the year, while total vehicle deliveries rose 14.8 percent, according to researcher Autodata Corp., based in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. GM, second only to Ford Motor Co. in large pickup sales, has 12.5 percent of the small pickup market, which Toyota dominates with 42 percent share this year.

One challenge is making a pickup that is cheap enough to lure buyers, Hall said. The Colorado starts at $16,765, or $580 cheaper than the full-size Silverado pickup. Many buyers opt for the larger truck because the prices are so close, Hall said.
Quote:
Exploring Diesel

The company is also looking at a diesel engine for passenger cars in the U.S., said two people familiar with that plan. GM sells a diesel only in its large pickups.

GM no longer has financial constraints to keep the company from investing in new models. The capital expenditures budget is $6 billion a year, compared with $4.5 billion for Ford. Whitacre may invest more money for the right products and the company may need to hire more engineers and designers to develop the models, the three people said.

“Money isn’t the problem,” Hall said. “They don’t have enough people to do the work. It makes sense to look at these products. They could find the product they need this way.”

Re: GM still considering what to do

I say we of the nation make our own comercial so General Motors sees the worth of the truck it already has! And in doing so keep the factory open. How about a hottie singing the old "see the USA in a Chevrolet" but updated and a photo/video array of Colorados from around the country. Let it go viral on the internet!

Hamsters....we don't need no stinkin hamsters!

Re: GM still considering what to do

How about we combine the USA meet with the Factory Tour and invite SPEED Channel and Sport Truck Mag, GEARZ, Car Crazy, etc., remember all the publicity Saturn got back then! Keep the LA plant open, southern jobs, American made vehicles, the aftermarket (limited as it is),...! Lets show General Motors that they don't have to redesign, just listen to their customers and fix whats wrong and market correctly!

There may be more Colorado's and Canyon's yet to come. Waiting for stock sale to get the government out of their buisness. Should be some suprises to come as well.

That's a great idea. Nobody commented. Strange.

I'm down with this idea. Gotta do something. Those pricks at GM aren't gonna die and get new creative blood in there anytime soon.

Re: GM still considering what to do

I have to say the Colorado is one of the best out there as far as the drive train goes, From all the problems I've had to deal with and seen others deal with the problem is (with the exception of a few) the electrical. Fire the Electrical Dept. Mngr. Get someone capable of choosing a higher quality parts mfg company and keep the 355s rolling. If they build a replacement for the Colorado and Canyon and don't fix the actual problem then they will continue to have the same problem.
