HELP...heater blower motor quit working

I have downloaded the wiring diagram and trouble shot it to a missing positive feed to the motor. The relay and fuse are both tested good. Is there a common place for the wire to be broken or bad connection on that wire. Seems to come from battery positive to the fuse box through the blower relay then through the blower fuse, where it then goes directly to the blower motor. I have power through the fuse but none to the blower motor. Any help with where to look for the bad connection / broken wire will be greatly appreciated.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

Yeah that ^

It's a common issue with our trucks actually. Sometimes mine will quit and only work on 4, and I can wiggle the connector a little bit and it'l come right back on.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

i bought my truck 15 miles from Lake Michigan knowing it had this problem. Took the pieces i needed and tools with me and stopped for lunch and fixed it in the parking lot. Good thing i did too, it was chilly out up there in October.

easy fix!

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

The fan does not work in any speed. The speed control switch and resisters are actually on the negative side of the motor and all ring out good. Ground shuts off with switch in off position and maintain continuity to ground in notches 1-4. Positive side (according to the print) is only switched by the blower relay with the ignition as he trigger. I have a positive feed past the blower relay and through the blower fuse but it is not making it all the way down to the blower motor. The problem lays somewhere between the fuse box and the harness plug at the blower motor. Looking for some insight on where all to look for this wire and if there is a common place it may be breaking at (similar to the door pin switch problem of the wire breaking on the extended cabs right in the rubber conduit)

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

Thanks. I will look there this weekend. Hope this is not going to have to go as far as tracing the entire wire through the firewall.

HELP...heater blower motor quit working-1376339423151.jpg The harness was showing 12v both sides behind the kick panel. I followed the wires up to a black connector behind the glove box. 12v on truck side and nothing on blower motor side. Took the connector apart and found brown wire had a burnt pin on the female/truck side. I bent the pin a little bit on the male side to try and make connection and it is working. I know its probably a temporary fix but its working for now.

Well it quit working again last week. So I stripped a little insulation back on the brown wires on each side of the harness connections and soldered a jumper wire to bypass the harness and put a pull apart on my new "repair" wire. Working great since. If you want a picture of the final repair just say so and I will post it here.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

I had number 3 stop, then run, then stop, then run for a couple of years, no worries...

Drum roll please...

THEN a last month on one of those long hellish 16 hour network troubleshooting days and was coming down Hwy 411 from Madisonville, when I literally saw smoke.
I was smoking at the time (yeah so what?), thought the cherry fell off and something was burning in the cab and threw the cig out, turned off ac,hurriedly pulled over emergency stop, smoke coming out the vents, cab filled with smoke. I'm shitting myself by this time, looking for the fire, couldn't find it. Couldn't find anything. Ok. Start truck again and note #3 position is out. Try 1,2, and 4. No problem. Freaked, I drive home. Next day? 1, 2, 3, and 4 working again. A few days ago, #3 has given up the ghost so I'll be ordering the harness (checking stealership today for grins just in case) to get this going correctly - it's probably the unified ground that started it and fried the inside connector. Just bought some new tires for my baby ($871 ouch)and am in maintenance mode for SESM13.

Told you that story to tell you this one: Anyone ever seen/had a Lancia Lancer? It's an Italian brand car that was pretty sporty in it's day. A friend of mine was given one that had a brake light issue that the previous owner couldn't fix and we started on it. Wow, Holy shiite, kill-me-now-and-the-dog-too, those cars had a unified ground. Not just an ordinary unified ground, EVERYTHING went to this thing, it's as big as your head. Wanna know why? No chassis ground. Yes, for every positive wire, it had a matching ground wire going to the UG. Twice the wiring. We worked three days tracing wires - never fixed those tail lights - he traded it for a trailer on the fourth day. 0.o
woof!

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

I'm having the same problem in my 2004 Colorado. I replaced the resistor and harness and it worked for a couple days and now nothing. I just ordered a new blower motor hoping that will fix it. Has anyone replaced a blower motor?

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

There's a how-to for blower motor replacement. It's pretty easy until you try to get to the mounting screw that's against the firewall/dash/whatever. It's a PITA, but it can be done with a little patience (and a universal swivel joint).

Make sure the resistor pack/harness is plugged in securely. Sometimes mine will cut out and if I reach under the dash and wiggle it a little bit it'l come right back on.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

GM updated their harness so if you go with it instead of the Tacoma one make sure it is the up graded one.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

I have had a blower on/off on every speed for a while. I replaced the harness and what not a couple years ago and had no issues until now. I ordered a new blower and set it in the back seat.......no issues since :lomao:

I need to find that connection behind the kick panel and see if thats my problem.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

Mine has started emitting a foul smell when the fan is on #3. Smells like an insect burning. The resistor must be going bad. We are just choosing something else for the time being.

Re: HELP...heater blower motor quit working

So I'm going down the road the other day and smoke starts to come out of my dashboard. I freak out and stop. Guess what I have to replace. Number 3 fried. Where's the recall on this one? Chevy really sucks sometimes. It sounds like everyone has this problem. Don't you think it could cause distracted driving and an accident??? F-ck you Chevy. If someone died because of this, we would all have a recall. F-ck you Chevrolet GM.
