Re: oil change question

i get it all yeah i fork over like 50bucks give er take $$ that price. to get the best Mobil 1 fullsynth.. with the mobil 1 extended performance filter. cause everytime i change my oil its still clean looking.usually. but i dont have to change mine for like 7k with the extended performacne stuff i got on sale when i changed myoil the last time it was 1/2 off. '

i used to use synthetic blend and the motor would just hessitate . now it screams. but tis still slow.

It works great , I use it with Zmax and change the filter every 3,000 miles and
Wait for the light on the dash to say its time . Right now there about 16,000
on the oil. This is my third change and I got 56,479 right now. Your truck will start
a lot better in the winter.

Re: oil change question

/shrug

The I5 is a temporary thing, in my mind. I use "cheap" Castrol GTX. I'm at 90k miles, and the engine has never so much as made a burble that I didn't like. Everything I've had problems with (very few things, btw) have been accessory issues that engine oil has nothing to do with.

Re: oil change question

Not so much emphasis as to what type of oil you use but rather how often you replace it. Using reg oil can be just as good if you replace it on a regular basis (3,000mi).

Please do not post bad information. Thank you.

Use a filter that is made to last longer for sythetic oils.

Again, bad information. Synthetics are much better for your engine and seals than conventional oil. Please research this stuff, then come back.

Savanah, I understand opinions are opinions, but don't assume my response was bad information. I never stated conventional oils were better. For the cost, conventional oils (being about half price) can be "just" as good (meaning: nearly or close to) if strict services are adhered to. You proved my logic in your first post. Synthetics do not break down as quickly as conventional oils thus requiring a longer lasting filter. I've seen syn oil life listings of up to 17,000 miles. Personally, I don't know anyone who waits that long to change their oil. That was my point. Conventional oils are just as good (not any better) if changed on strict reg. & short intervals.

Synthetic oils protect your engine better over the projected life of the oil. If you were to compare the two oils up to even 8k miles, syn wins right? (protects longer & better over that period than con.) But if you're on a reg. maintenance routine, is the added benefit of dumping that $40.00 dollars worth of oil (5 x $8.00) every 3k worth the added life & protection in such a limited amount of time compared to reg. old con. oils? That's where we all have to be the judge & weigh cost vs. benefit.

My filter response was assuming he was replacing his oil (whether syn or con.) every 3k in which, no, he would not need a longer lasting filter.

Again, opinions are that of the beholder. But a routine maintenance schedule should always be taken into account when talking about what's better & what's not.

Not true. Synthetics protect better, period. Not just for 8,000 miles or what not. Synthetics have detergents that clean and prevent any buildup, they are better for seals, they lubricate MUCH better over the full life of the engine (whether you change your conventional oil every 3,000 miles or not), they keep engine temps lower and because of the all of that, the internals of the engine can last much longer. This has all be proven. It is not just my opinion. Again I say, look it up.

Re: oil change question

Do the math - if you get the filters for $5.00 each and your oil is $2.00 a can = $15.00
and you do the dirty work . At 24,000 miles you spent $75.00 on 5 oil changes...
My way, 5 filters ($25.00) and two jugs of M1 @ $19.95 ($39.90) . $64.90 at this point.
Now for the next 5 changes it coast you $75.00 again and me $25.00 plus 2 qts of Mi at
$5.75 each , cost to me of $36.50 .( save money buy the jug )...

Re: oil change question

Synthetic oil must be better just pop the hood on any newer Corvette or like the 2005 GTO I used to have with the LS2 or LS3 engines and right on top of the oil cap it says Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil

I do 5 and 1/3 qts on top and 2/3 in the filter. Never start with a dry filter...
