Re: What would be the best way to regain 2 mpg?

This thread is a big fat fail. How can a dude who admits he is:
1)an aggressive driver with no intent on changing his driving habits
2) driving a 4x4 with 33" tires
3) planning to get a light bar which will not improve aerodynamics

gripe about a 2 mpg loss? Even if he did get those 2 mpgs back, would he notice the difference? No one gasses up their truck by topping off the tank to overflowing the filler tube and then running it down to the last half-gallon of gas in the fuel line. A variance of even one gallon of gas in the tank or fuel line between fillups makes your mileage estimation exactly that...an estimate.

This is like someone complaining that that he's not getting the gas mileage he should on his 67 Caddy with the 502. Just by being at this level of vehicle, you've already decided that mileage is not a priority. If the OP wants better mileage, buy a used Corolla.

Re: What would be the best way to regain 2 mpg?

Personally I'm loving the FE of my Z71 Colorado Crew 3.5l 4x4 even with nobby tires.
I had an F-150 before this and averaged 10-12mpg now I'm getting 19 mpg average with highs of 22 between the last 4 tanks and that's everything still stock.
That's huge to me. I went from paying $110 a tank for 350-400km's to paying $65 for 600km's a tank. And I like my truck WAY more. So even if it is just an estimate (though I do use the scanguage for my figures) I estimate that I can afford to take my girl out for a few extra steak dinners this month!

Sellick, what gears are you running? 3.73's? i have the plugs, intake, gutted both cats, and an e-fan. i was getting 17 mpg at 70 mph. i bumped the tire pressure up to 40lbs and got 19. before i did all these mods and with the old 89k mile motor i was getting 19. i get a new motor and mod it and get 17.

big tires take more fuel. Gears are the best way to help. Drive as gentle as you can, helps the most.

Re: What would be the best way to regain 2 mpg?

Ok so he wants to modify his truck, not his driving habits. plus he said at least 2 mpgs. So all that advice about laying off the gas... yeah that's a no brainer, otherwise he wouldn't have asked for help. honestly i would be interested in seeing what performance $400 could get me that would also gain 2mpgs, AT LEAST.

So yeah this thread is a fail, because of those who only offered laying off the gas pedal as advice, as well as the one who pointed out the obvious that driving a truck with a lift and large tires is asking for low mpgs.

Re: What would be the best way to regain 2 mpg?

FMRJPR is right.... gears will solve your issue all together. when u put bigger tires on u actualy change the gear ratio. upgrading to lower gears will take u back to the factory gear ratio and make it feel like u never changed tire sizes. although im kinda screwed with 35's

Best 2 things for mileage I ever did was the MBRP catback, and the dyno tune.

Don't take off your lower bumper valence either.

Also bear in mind...your tires are larger than stock, so you're going farther per tank than your truck is telling you...without a tune you'll have to do the math to figure out how far out you are, and add the extra numbers on manually.
