trans going out? (NSFW)

i4-5speed-reg cab-06-55k.

my truck whines at 62-73mph weather its in 4th or fifth gear.

no noticible drop in performance.

sounds like a horn/whine...really annoying when trying to go 65. loud as fuck.

what do yall think it could be?

when i had 33in tires 62-73 was the range id run on the interstate/highways for long periods of time. i know it was straining the truck alot...

have you checked all your fluids and the bearings? dose the tranny or the rear axle fluild smell like its burnt? any noticeable play in any of the tires? where is the whing coming from front L,R center of the truck rear L,R? sorry but need more details to help out.

There was another who posted this same type thread about a year ago. It took trips to two different dealers for them to warranty his transmission. Mine was making a little bearing noise but definitely not a howl at 85~k miles when I pulled it. I think these trans
bearings just don't deal well with stress. Change the fluid to royal purple and keep driving it til you can't stand the noise anymore. When it gets there, order a $300 low mile. Trans like I did, bring it to Memphis and we'll put that and theclutch I sold you in.

it might also be the throw out bearing! while drive at speed let off the gas and push in the clutch if the whinning stops its the throw out bearing.

i dont know how to check the fluid on the trans.

<----total trans noob.

i changed the rear axle fluid at bout 35k. now at 55k.

the sound sounds like its comming from dead center of the underside. like its the trans.

howl is the correct term for the noise. its like my old train horn when it was almost out of air.

the noise does not increase with speed. worst at 63-64mph. no noticible vibration.

i went out in the truck and got it up to 65. as soon as i let off the gas the howl stopped. the clutch didnt need to be pushed in to make it stop the noise.

only when the truck is under load(gas peddal down). the more the gas pedal is down the louder it howls.

shits pissing me off.

I had the same sound in mine and it was the rear pinion bearings. had to pull the rearend apart to replace them and one was pressed onto the rear pinion. That fixed the problem.

Seriously though, sometimes it's worth paying the Stealer the $100 to diagnose something like this, at least narrow it down so you know what to fix.
