V8 Colorado Swap Guide, Links and Video's


These are facts learned from swaps already preformed.

• GTO motor mounts can be used with custom fabrication.
• GTO transmissions can be used and Stock transmissions can also be used by swapping the input shaft and bellhousing.
• The Stock Rear End seem to be able to hold the power of the V8 pretty well.
• The Stock Colorado radiator seems to work fine with the use of aftermarket fans.
• If you intend to keep the factory A/C. Custom A/C lines will need to be made.
• The Colorado Accelerator pedal has to be changed when using any of the LS2computers.
• ABS is not a problem at all and works perfectly.
• A starter switch or starter button may be needed to start the motor or you can change out the entire steering column. Because GM designed the Colorado to supply a start signal to the engine controller via the Body control module. It doesn't have any direct signal from the key to the starter, starter relay, or even the engine computer which controls the starter relay, and there isn't a very realistic way to make one. **Note: Current Performance is currently working on this and I believe they figured out how to wire everything so you can use the stock key ignition.
• The cruise control can be made to work but depends on the engine and tranny combo.
• If you choose to use a 2006 or 2007 Corvette motor with the LS2 or LS7 they use a 58x Reluctor wheel. This requires the use of an E38 control unit. This unit is not compatible with the Colorado at all and Current Performance is working on what needs to be done to make it all work.
• Another issue with the 2006 and 2007 Corvette setup is the Transmission Controller. The controller is made to control the 6 speed auto and Current Performance hasn’t even gotten to the point of figuring out what to do there, but it’s possible an aftermarket Trans Controller will be needed, or maybe the older 2005 TCM will work.**Note: They are currently working on this.
• You can use the stock I5 trans with a LS2 if you change out the input shaft and bellhousing.

• Current Performance has harnesses available right now for the Gen 3 swaps, any LS1, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 24x LS2. The 2006 Corvette engine (58x) is kind of tricky to do via mail order right now but Current Performance is trying to work out how to supply the wiring via mail-order for the 58x Corvette Swap.
• A V8 Colorado swap varies in price depending on what motor you go with but Current Performance can do the swap for about $8- $10,000.00 and that include the $3000.00 in labor to do the swap it self and you have to supply the motor and tranny of your choice so keep that in mind.

you say $10,000 plus engine and tranny...but only 3,000 for labor? where the other 7,000 come in? just wondering, cuz i REALLY like their work and i cant decide between turbo and LS2 with a nice cam...mmmm....oh ya, and anyone see that video where he takes off rolling? well it looks like the loses control at the end, it looks like the truck swerves and you can hear him let off the throttle...kind of dangerous huh? too much power for our trucks?

Wow, I wish i could do this to my colorado, that motor is nutz!

ls2's are expensive. $4k-$5k for used or $6k for a new crate engine. Plus trans and accessories.

i know what you mean. but it says $10,000 just to put it in. that means you have to spend $5,000 on an LS2 or LS7 plus a transmission (or just tranny work). that means your up to $15,000. so $7,000 for wiring harness, fans, etc? or did i read it wrong and it was $10,000 for the complete swap with a LS2 included????

$10k for everything, including parts n labor.
