help b4 i mess things up!!!!!

ohkayy so im going to be changing oil for the first time tomorrow!!! besides doing it on my dirt bike....so i need help! im going to list the order that i think is right so correct me if im wrong?!

1) warm the truck up.
2) jack the truck up.
3) unbolt the drain plug.
4) remove the oil filter while oil is still draining.
5) once all drained put the plug back and put 5 quarts in and screw in a new filter.
6) do the oil reset thing that brewer explains how to do (if someone could find that thread for me please i cant find it)
7) turn the truck on and let idle.

is that correct or did i miss out on any thing? my friends say its super easy a caveman can do it but i gotta make sure b4 i fuck things up!

well my truck takes 6 quarts and i wait till the plug is done draing befpre i take the filter off but thats me and i don't jack my truck up

o and the reset thing he prolly told you right but just turn the key to the on postion an push the gas pedal 3 times and start the truck (don't know if u need to start it then but thats when i start it for the idel)

His 2.9 only needs 5 qts!

Oh, it should be more like, bolt in drain plug, add new filter, then add oil! If you try to add oil before you put the new filter in....well I think you can figure that one out!

oh yeah i've done that on my dirt bike b4!haha but yeah is all the above correct? and do i still need to warm the truck up b4 i change it?

I am partial to a 6 point box end wrench for the drain-plug. Or a 6 Point socket I guess. That way you are less likely to strip the drain plug. Also, you can add oil before you put the filter on... But if you do it yourself, you are down there anyway so drain, take off old filter, install new filter, tighten drain bolt, then add oil. Start and let idle until the little genie lamp (oil pressure light) goes off. then Done!

I have been doing oil changes since I was a kid, so I think you can handle it!

ohkayy so i changed my oil and i was fully shitting my self! but the outcome came out very great!! i put in 5 quarts and had to take out about 8oz. because it was overfilled, and there was no leaks made a bunch of mess and got scoldings from my mom cause there was oil all over the garage haha!!! but yeah i feel pretty confident now! thanks for the help guys!! very very helpfull site!!

did u crank it befoer u took out the 8 ounces?
cause that generally fills the filter

personally i would have filled the filter before i put it on aaaaand put a dab on the o-ring and wiped it around it....probably just preference. but if its ur first oil change then good job!

A little overfull won't hurt a thing. A lot overfull is a different story. 8oz is a little overfull.
