My catalytic converter is going out

Ok so im leaving my driveway and I hear this really bad rattling sound. First I think its just one of my exhaust hangers that had come loose and was not rattling, but I checked everything and nothing was loose. I called my dad out to take a look at it too just to make sure I wasnt going crazy. He got under the truck as I hit the gas and thats when it would make the noise. He looked around and we narrowed it down to right under the passenger door. So I hit the gas again and it was coming out of my catalytic converter. So does this mean I am going to need a new one? it hasnt set off a censor yet so I dont know what the deal is!

Re: My catalytic converter is going out

A new mid pipe with converter is 400-425....I cut the side of mine, bent it out and cleaned it out, bent the side back in place, welded and called a good job.

WTRacing did a good how-to on a converter delete.

How To: 2nd Cat Delete for under $25

Re: My catalytic converter is going out

Im gunna have to do something quick before it throws a code, this is my daily driver and if I cant get to college and work, Im gunna have some big problems. I just cant afford to drop $400 on a new one, So I guess im gunna have to cut it out and weld in some staight pipe like WTRacing did in his How To.

Re: My catalytic converter is going out

Your under warranty. Go to GM...get them to replace it legally, and get a loaner vehicle.

Re: My catalytic converter is going out

alright, well the check engine light just came on. I talked to GM and they said its a $100 charge for them to even look at it, but if it is the catalytic converter then they cover the charge and replace it for free! so im going to get the code read tomorrow and if it def is then im taking it to GM.
