Battery Keeps going Dead

Bought an 08 with 65,000km..
Last weekend I added a double din deck, 350w amp and 10" sub.
The deck was added with a GMCO chime module wiring harness (i know i know).. but I had no issues with it after install. I got it used from a guy for $40 so I was happy to pay that over the $199 the car audio shop wanted for the other model. Deck & amp both shut down after I open the door..

Last week I also noticed my 12v cig lighters had no power (first time i tried using them) so I checked the fuses and they were both blown - replaced them on wednesday night.. Drove to work thursday and at the end of the day the truck battery was dead. Boosted it & drove 30mins home..
I had no issues until yesterday.. but this morning (friday) my battery was dead again..
I unplugged my power cable for my amp from the battery this morning, boosted it, drove to work and the battery is dead again.

My only ideas are:
a) my battery sucks
b) my 12v cig lighters are shorting out somewhere and some how discharging the battery..
c) my chime module is some how drawing power constantly and killed the battery..

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Re: Battery Keeps going Dead

Best way to check to see if you have a current draw is with a meter across the one side of the battery. Anything over 50mA is too much. Start there, if it isover 50mA then disconnect your stereo equipment to see which one is causing the problem.

Re: Battery Keeps going Dead

Check your battery at a autoparts shop to see if the battery is good. If the battery is original to the truck, adding an amp may have been the culprit and the battery isn't able to handle the extra draw even if the truck is running.

Good luck.

Re: Battery Keeps going Dead

Either the battery is toast or the alternator is!

The life expectancy of a battery is only about 4 years, so take that into consideration when troubleshooting

Check all connections with the alternator. My wife's car was doing the same thing til the connecter finally came off.
