Serv tpm

Hi all, I'm getting the SERV TPM message intermittently on my DIC and the (!) light. It will come on and go off. Tires are inflated properly and I never get a low tire message just the SERV TPM and (!) light. It has been cold and this may be the issue, but I have never had the problem in the past and it has been cold before.

Any Guesses?

07 3.7 I5 crew cab

Thanks

Re: Serv tpm

Batteries in one of the sensors could be getting faulty. See a tire shop or dealer to check on that. If that's the problem, then just have them replace the sensor.

Just a bad sensor .. I've had a broken sensor for two years now . You'll learn to just ignore that pesky light

Re: Serv tpm

I started getting SERV TPM as well when the weather got cold. I figure the batteries in the sensors are getting weak, and are adversely affected by the cold temperatures, thus not strong enough to send a pressure reading to the computer.

Re: Serv tpm

I have had the same issue on my truck practically from day 1. I went to the dealer 3 times and they replaced all the sensors and it still comes on occasionally. Got new tires and wheels since and the shop "re-built" all 4 sensors and it still comes on occassionally. I wish the truck never came with those idiot things. I know manufacturers are mandated by federal law to have them on all passenger vehicles.

While they may be 'stupid' to some, there are more people who don't check tire pressure than who do, and this alerts them of it. A low tire will explode when it gets hot, so less tire explosions are likely. Of course the MPH benefits of a properly inflated tire too.

Do I have them? Yes? Have they ever alerted me to a low tire? Yes. Do I care that I have them? No.

Re: Serv tpm

I thought the TPM was stupid too, then my light came on to tell me my tires were low, because I neglected to add any air when the outside temperature dropped.

It was a nice little slap in the face to remind me to check my tires more often, especially around seasonal weather changes.

Re: Serv tpm

IVe gotten serv tpms for the past two winters Ive had my truck, once the average temps stay above ~35 it never does it. only when it drops below 30 or so for more than a day. during the spring/summer/fall(in kansas) it never comes on. just a flaw of the system related to temp.

Re: Serv tpm

It finally warmed up above freezing today, and of course, my truck did not ask me to SERV TPM today.

Re: Serv tpm

I guess I wouldn't be so against them if I hadn't had to go to the dealer 3 times to get them replaced and after installing aftermarket wheels and tires and having each sensor rebuilt and they give me the "SERV TPM". I know they do serve a purpose, I just wish they installed better ones from the factory.

Does anybody not bother putting TPM in their aftermarket setups?

Re: Serv tpm

Hi All
I also have had Serv TPM & low tire show up ever since I bought my truck. The "dealer" said they were hard to get to replace so I ignored it. I recently fitted some chrome rims and when my tyre guy took of the tyres to fit on the new rims one of the sensors had been removed. Is there any way to disengage the TPM?

Good to see you back!! I'm guessing that the cold weather hasn't affected your TPMS!! If you really need to address the issue, there are sources here that ship international. One of the better ones is rockauto.com. Not sure how much the shipping will affect the overall cost of the items. I know you recently bought the truck new, but I can't remember what the outcome of the warranty coverage issue was. If you do decide to pursue it, and choose rockauto, post back and we can provide a 5% discount code.

Re: Serv tpm

Ive heard of some guys putting all of their sensors in a 3" section of PVC pipe and glueing the caps on, then making a hole for a valve stem at one end and just air that up to 35-36 psi and put it in the cab under a seat or something if you are running aftermarket wheels and dont want to swap over the sensors :-)

Re: Serv tpm

Nomad240,

I agree with the others, it may be a sensor issue.

I recommend consulting with a certified technician for an official diagnosis.

If you need assistance locating a technician in your area, please PM me your zip code.

Please keep us posted.

Yeh, don't know about the cold weather. It's 34 degrees celsius here (double it and add 30 for your temp scale) and 90% humidity at the moment.
I think I will put up with the Serv Tpm flashing for now. I still haven't heard back from GM Customer Service re the warranty issues but it's a great truck regardless.

Re: Serv tpm

I am having the same issue, but it is the "SERV TPM" message that is showing up. I started having the issue after I replaced the tires on my truck. I put a set of the BFG All-Terrians on and increased the PSI to 35 instead of 30. When I first put them on in January I did not have any issues, it was only about maybe 1 to 1.5 months when it started weather started getting warmer that I started getting the SERV TPM message in the DIC. I had the dealership look into the issue when I had it there for an oil change. I was told by there tire specialist that the SERV TPM will/would show up if the tires are actually over inflated as well. The computer is set with a minimum and maximum pressure setting and because I increased the pressure to 35 when the tires heatup it goes over that maximum setting. The service tech at the dealership did the relearn with there tool and I have not tried the relearn procedure that is outlined in the manual as I assumed that it would do the same thing the dealership already did. My question is, is there a way of increasing the maximum pressure setting without having to pay the dealership to do it, if they would even do it?
