Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Bed Swap ? Hey all, My buddy and I were sitting around talking about how to bob his truck and make it more trailworthy, then the thought hit me. Has anyone put time into thinking about swapping a regular cab bed for a crewcab bed ? It seems that the frame should be the same size, and maybe even some mounting tabs would crossover. Just a thought ! -EA |

| drive slow homie | Re: Bed Swap ? the frame is longer on the crew cab. so you would have to shorten the frame to make it fit correctly.

| "the grand canyon" ![]() | Re: Bed Swap ? Yeah, someone did the long bed on a crew. No one has done the reg cab short bed combo though. You would in fact have to shorten the frame, but it wouldn't be a simple chop off at the end of the frame. You would have to section part of the middle out to keep the suspension mounts and whatnot in the correct position for the shorter bed. The drive line might have the be shortened as well. Doing this could easily make the truck less trail worthy. Granted, you could build it strong as hell, but there is always the possibility of something snapping when you get into some serious flexing/twisting... |

| Static Scraper | Re: Bed Swap ? Not only would you have to cut the frame you'd probably have to move the axle forward so the tires would fit into the wheel wells. It would be AOLT of work but I think it would look sweet |

| Nation Advocate | Re: Bed Swap ? ive thought about this alot and from what i saw under my truck, it wouldnt be hard at all. z the frame just behind the cab so you dont mess up the rear suspention shit. get a driveshaft made and proly shorten the break lines. maybe relocate the gas tank....maybe...and move the front box mounts. i disagree with the making it weaker comment tho. welds are stronger than oe shit if done right. too bad it would be ugly....and useless. youd have to add weight to get any traction for the street. guess it would be good for trails tho, but fuck that. go cut up an s10 for trails. my .03
