Painting chevrolet bowtie emblem?

How is everyone painting thier Chevrolet bowtie that's on the grille? I've seen black ones, red ones, yellow ones, and I want to paint mine orange to match my truck.

Does it just pop out, then you prep and paint or do I have to mask everything off and paint it on the truck?

There is 2 10mm nuts that hold it on. take em off, slip it off and prep and paint.

Re: Painting chevrolet bowtie emblem?

Make sure and use an adhesion promoter of some type before you prime so the paint will stick

Re: Painting chevrolet bowtie emblem?

Ok, so what is best? First sanding, then use Bulldog, then primer, paint and clearcoat?

If your going black, remove gold foil from inside using oven cleaner and finger nails. Paint black on inside then you never have to worry about bugs and chips.

I thought about black, but I think I'll go the orange color of my truck. Still tossing it around in my head right now.

Wow, really? Think it might be a good idea to spray them with penetrating oil a couple times and let them soak before I try to get them off?

I like what you did there.. I might copy you, or do mine backwards of how you did. That orange outline really pops out!

No don't spray them. The shafts are plastic. Not metal. The nuts are metal

Ahhh ok. I didn't know, I hadn't fooled with mine yet. I hope mine don't break off, that'd blow.

Re: Painting chevrolet bowtie emblem?

If they break you can use two sided tape to put the emblem back on. its no big deal, just cheap ass plastic crap

Re: Painting chevrolet bowtie emblem?

I painted mine a few months ago with DupliColor Perfect Match. I sprayed DupliColor Clear over it too. Scuffed it with a scotch brite, cleaned it real well, then applied a few coats of each. Holding up great so far.
