Plastidip on Chrome bumpers

Everyone here loves plastidip, and I wanted to make my bumper black. But I dont want to sand off all the chrome on the bumper. If I use plati dip on my bumper, would I have to sand off the chrome? Is there any other prep work needed? Thanks for the help

spray it real good with thick coats, that way if you ever want to take it off it wont be to hard.

Start with light coats then make them heavier. If you want it to match your truck(if your truck is gloss black) after the dip dries you can spray it with gloss black rustoleoum. It turns out pretty good.

re: Plastidip on Chrome bumpers

I have had mine dipped for over a year now with no issues with no clear just PlastiDip. The great thing is its totally reversable if you want to go back to chrome. Here is a pic of mine.

re: Plastidip on Chrome bumpers

Thanks for all the help guys. I was worried I would have to sand the chrome off. Now I can spend a couple bucks and get rid of all my chrome.

And btw...just noticed the spelling error on the thread title x)

Is the glossifier an additive or is it a spray as well. I saw that product on the site a while back but it doesnt have a product description saying what it is exactly.

I've had my grill, bumper and lower valance plasti-dipped for quite a while. It took to the chrome bumper very well. I have two coats of the gloss over the color.

I am doing my bumpers next weekend. Just did my chrome strip. I did sand it though just because. I was told by a guy at work that after you spray the chrome if you want to peel it off the shine from the chrome is gone. Which Idc because I hate chrome anyway. Goodluck and post pics if you do it!

I have had my chrome wheels done a few times and I have never had any issues with them not shinning after I peel it off. I plasti dip them about every 6 months, its cheaper then buying new rims.

Black & Chrome

All Black

All Chrome after I peeled it off

False, I've done it before with no ill effects. You may need to buff it slightly afterwards, but it does not remove the shine all together.

I plasti dipped my front bumper back in the summer. Sprayed over the top of it with DIY bedlliner. Has held up very well.

re: Plastidip on Chrome bumpers

No worries bro! the trick to anykind of spray on paint lasting is PREP - PREP - PREP :/
did mine about 6months ago front and rear bumpers plus the grill! make sure you clean everything really good let it sit in some heat till its warmer then ambient temp (not cold). then spray away, start off lightly dusting it, by about your 2/3 coat you wont see any more chrome! i did a total of 5 coats of flat black + 2 coats of clear and it still looks as good as it did the first day! =) my comp wont let me post pics it says i already loaded the pics but dont know which thread

re: Plastidip on Chrome bumpers

I always see pics with it being flat black. I want to see some pics of it being glossy like y'all mentioned. Sorry for the hijack.
