Re: How To: Replace Exhaust Camshaft Actuator Solenoid

I finally got around to replacing mine, at 81K.

The old one looks perfect, fortunately I got it out before the screens deteriorated.
I checked the solenoid, it reads about 7 - 8 ohms.

After a quick 2-mile test drive, my idle is better and she runs a little smoother all around.
If the original was still good (?) then why do I feel an improvement?

Maybe the original was not operating mechanically even though the solenoid coil is still OK?

Re: How To: Replace Exhaust Camshaft Actuator Solenoid

OK, having driven her a few more miles, if I had known what I know now I would have replaced the exhaust camshaft actuator solenoid at about 60k or so, just for the improvement in smoothness and driveability.

BTW, mine required only 15 minutes to replace.

Re: Exhaust Camshaft Actuator Solenoid?!?!

That's bad. What you can do.. or try to do is take a oil can and try to rinse it off.. but honestly, you're better off just replacing it.

DONT torque that bolt that holds it in back down hard, you'll snap it real good!

happened to me, actually that's the reason I joined the site!

Yeah I have already put it back in. I figured that was bad but wanted to ask before I went and spent $90.
