Re: How-To:Install Corvette Servos and Billet Overdrive Servo

The purpose of the vette servo mod is to allow the transmission to shift more quickly and efficiently from first to second gear. From the factory, the truck 4L60e's have a smaller servo. The servo is used to apply the 2-4 band in the transmission. Upgrading to the vette servo gives the trans more "holding" power and thus yields a quicker/firmer shift. Adding a vette servo has also seemed to cause some folks 1-2 slipping to cease.

found this explanation on a full size forum...it pretty much sums it up.

Re: How-To:Install Corvette Servos and Billet Overdrive Servo

yeah slipping is bad to a point, but a nessary evil to ensure the correct operation when it comes to shifting. Plus it helps the fluid last longer since it doesnt get as hot from the slipping. But just barely. main thing is less slipping means less wear on the bands.

Ebay. cheapest place to get them that I could find. Just look for servos for a 4L60e transmission.

Re: How-To:Install Corvette Servos and Billet Overdrive Servo

As someone who has done this mod already, this How To is vague in certain critical areas.

For example, once you remove the stock servos and pin, some dissasembly/assembly is required. If you are only replacing one servo instead of both, the procedures are slightly different. There are also factory springs that get replaced.

Members who aren't knowledgeable might incorrectly assume this is a simple plug and play mod. If you can change your sparkplugs, you can change your servos, provided you pay attention to detail.

Both the Superior and JET brand servos come with detailed instructions and pics.
In addition, Superior has you check the free play movement of the servo pin once everything is back together. If there is too much play, you install the pin extender included in the kit. if there isn't enough free play, you grind the end of the pin.

This mod certainly isn't rocket science, but if the servo assemblies are not put together correctly you will have serious shifting issues.

My advice: order the servos, read the install instructions several times before starting, take your time, and enjoy the results.

How did you go about compressing the back of the 2nd piston to pull the big snap/c-clip out to switch the cover and big spring to the new piston?

I have seen $100+ or over charge for a simple job to say the least!

Re: How-To:Install Corvette Servos and Billet Overdrive Servo

I'm having my servos installed this week. The installation quote was in the $150-180 range. While I think that's on the high side, this transmission shop comes highly recomended from someone I trust. I'll post up a review once they're installed and I've had a chance to play.
