Key fob programming?

anyone know the steps to setup or change the key fob settings for a 2006? My key fob all of a sudden will not lock or unlock when the truck is running. when it is off it works fine. I changed the battery no difference. I know its in the owners manual but I cant find mine LOL
I think my son was playing with the fob mashing buttons and may have changed the setup.
please and thanx

Re: Key fob programming?

Actually it should not be in the owners manual. At least I'm fairly certain, GM (on alot) of thier models want a dealer to program new fobs. I have an 06 but mine has add-on keyless entry so I'm afraid I can't help but did you google it?

Let me google that for you

Re: Key fob programming?

1 Sit in the driver's seat of the truck and close all of its doors. Insert the ignition key into the Colorado's ignition cylinder.

2 Press and hold the "Unlock" button on the power lock panel of the driver's side door. While holding the "Unlock" button, turn the ignition key to "Run," then cycle it back to "Off." Repeat this sequence one more time.

3 Release the "Unlock" button--the door locks will lock, then unlock, to notify you that the truck is in programming mode.

4 Press and hold both the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the fob until the door locks cycle again--it may be 30 seconds or more before this happens. Do this step for any additional transmitters you wish to program.

5 Turn the key to the "Run" position to exit programming. Turn the key to the "Off" position to remove it from the cylinder.

Re: Key fob programming?

In the owners manual you can change the settings for how the fob reacts. like you can have the horn beep once or twice ect. I just cant remeber if engine running was one of the options.

That's because you MUST have it programmed at the dealer to begin with..then once that's done you can decide what you want it to do. YOU can adjust it to make the horn chirp, or lights flash, or even nothing at all. Like zuece said, it IS in the manual. It's just you can not PROGRAM the key fob yourself to begin with. The dealer MUST do it..

Re: Key fob programming?

Chris, I can get the procedure for changing the lock and fob settings later and post it on the Canuck site if you want.

I have changed mine so only the lights flash when I lock or un-lock.

Re: Key fob programming?

When I got my trailblazer, it has the RPO code for remote access, however, it did not come with fobs from the used car dealer. I found on ebay, a pair of keyfobs and a spare key for $25 and did this programming method. Works like a charm.

Re: Key fob programming?

Guess they are different then. The colorado and canyon i KNOW must be done by the dealer to begin with. I searched and searched. Ask anyone that know's me, i HATE spending money..much less if i can do it myself man.. I tried everything I could to get it done. Finally went up to the dealer and the guy did it for free..after i bullshitted him of course. BUT he HAD to use a computer to do it. I watched..and i had two of them done, about a month apart. both were done the same way with the computer while i stood there.

I think you may be wrong on that. The trailblazer and the 355s have very similar if not identical bcms. Try this method first, it should work.

Yep. Clint puts it exactly as it is. ONCE your key pob is programmed to teh truck, THEN you can adjust it to do everything he listed there. But if you do NOT have it programmed, as in YOU bought it off ebay, then you can NOT program it yourself. believe me I tried everything I oculd to do it..I looked on here forever, hell i believe i even made a thread about it, let me check..

I'm trying not to post wrong info either but I did check with a fob programmer and sure enough, the Colorado key fobs need to be programmed from the dealer.

Re: Key fob programming?

Yeah you have got to have a GM Tech2 or somthing that will get into the BCM and initiate the FOB learn procedure. Just did one today for Dbizzle since he didnt get any fobs with his truck since it was used. he bought a new Delphi FOB online for like 15$. Took less that 2 min with the Tech2. this is the only way I am aware of...
