Question Thermostat? how the crap do.........

you get to it??? I stopped on the way home and bought one along with the proper amount of coolant (thanks Darek) thinking I would change it tonight because I think it is stuck in the closed position. The reason I think it is stuck in the closed position is the fact that it is not circlating and the top hose is to hot to hold and tight as a ticks ass. The bottom hose has little to no prasure on it and is only warm to the touch........The question here is, has anyone rplaced the thermostat, and if so what all had to be removed to do so.....that bastage is hidden up under the alternator, in fact is hard to see at all from the top or botoom of the truck......HELP

according to the factory service dvd you get to it from the driverside wheel well you have to take the tire and splash guard off i believe then you get easy access to it.

Re: Thermostat? how the crap do.........

1 Drain the cooling system.
2 Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the thermostat housing through the wheelhouse.
3 Remove the left Wheelhouse liner.
4 Position the J38185 (hose clamp pliers) to the clamp in order to remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
5 remove the thermostat housing bolts.
6 Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
7 Clean and inspect the thermostat housing.
8 Clean and inspect the sealing surface of the engine block.

Re: Thermostat? how the crap do.........

1) disconnect (-) battery cable
2) remove left front tire and and put vehicle on jackstands
3) follow lower radiator hose to the engine to locate the thermostat housing
4) loosen clamp, and take the hose off
5) remove the bolts and detach housing
6) if it is stuck, tap wit a soft face hammer to remove
7) clean all surfaces of engine and housing
8) make sure o-ring is installed on thermostat housing
9) reverse and install
