Anyone remove the intake manifold?

My starter needs replaced and I think the only way I can get it off is taking off the intake manifold like the service instructions say. I tried getting it out with out doing it and I got the bolts out but cant get the starter off. Anyone ever do this? Is it very hard? All I would have to worry about is replacing the gasket right?

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

There are a few that have, I guess its a bitch. I know that does not help though.

I would recommend replacing the gasket though. Let me see if I can find someone that knows.

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

My uncle has done it on other cars and he said it's easy, just have to replace the gasket.

No gaskets, it uses o-rings. They shouldn't really need replaced if you don't damage them. Personally I would recommend removing the bolt for the driver's side engine mount and using a hoist to raise that side of the engine up a couple inches. That's how I removed mine.

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

I want to try and get it on my uncles lift and see if I can get some leverage from the underside before I take off the intake. Is it pretty straight forward?

Might be easier doing that, when I took mine off it was a bitch although the starter sounds like a pain also. It shows that it pays 4 hours in alldata. that is with taking off the manifold though. If you give me your email I will send you the pdf instructions.

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

Ohhh I get what you mean now. Raise the engine to remove the starter, I thought you meant raise the engine to help getting the intake... I was like uhm, I doubt I would need to.

I don't remember anything particularly complicated about it other than it's just a whore to get to some of the bolts. There's no way to get the starter out from underneath? I haven't looked too closely at it.

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

Well I am not sure. I took out my fender wells so I could get to it and I pried and pried at it but it barely budged.

Re: Anyone remove the intake manifold?

No, there is NO way to get the starter off from underneath. You can't see, or even get a hand in there to touch the bolts. It's effin buried.
