Good luck, take pics, keep us posted! You can unplug the clutch line from the master to the slave. There is a special tool for it but I can usually get it with my fingers or a small screw driver. Pull them to gather squeeze the white plastic lock with your finger or small screw driver then pull them apart! They are checked so they won't loose fluid cover them with a rag so dirt doesn't get in.

Re: 2.8 leaking alot of oil

Most disks are made up of asbestos (like brake pads) They absorb oil and it can't be cleaned.

If your are willing to do the job again if it doesn't work you could try cleaning it with brake clean. At the very least I'd replace the disk, and deg laze the pressure plate and flywheel with a orbital sander. Clean everything with brake clean (except the new clutch disk)

I actually used a 13mm open end to get my clutch line off. One of the guys on the nation were doing theirs and I thought huh I'll try that. Worked good. Your good though man we can walk you through it if you never done it before. The hardest part I think is the hard water line that runs behind the motor. The top 2 bolts on the tranny actually holds that line down. haha what a pain to get it back in place to put that back in place haha. The more you know the more you know lol

Yeah thats the resivor mine was pretty nasty looking too. Its just dot 3 brake fluid. You could change but I didnt. I know you said you where waiting on your buddy but I did mine by myself and its not really that hard. Its only 8 bolts that hold the tranny 6 hold the cross member 2 that hold your fuel lines unhook your o2 sensor oh and take the shifter completely out it will not clear the bottom of the cab yeah that one took me a min 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft in clutch line and your ready to drop it. Easy day buddy.

Mine has gasket maker as well. Gm uses it to seal the front cover.

if its leaking out the head gasket you don't need to drive it to get it to leak. Just let it sit and idle.

Re: 2.8 leaking alot of oil

My cover looked just like that sealant..oosed all out!

If you have to do the head gasket.. you might as well as replace the head! These are notorious for burned valves! Maybe get a updated replacement head while your at it, and save your self doing this job again in a few years?

With that in mind I got a letter in the mail extend engine warranty for 7 years or 100,000 miles. If you are still under that maybe Gm will warranty the oil repair? Not sure if the warranty is only burned valve related, or the entire engine? It's to bad it doens't through a CEL for knock, then it would possibly have bad valves already! Let ti idle for a half an hour and see if it troughs a CEL, or if the oil comes out from anywhere.

I'd fix the oil leak before the clutch , it's not like any thing in the clutch can be saved at this point if it has oil o it or it's been slipping, it's not going to harm anything driving it a little like that till you fix the oil leak. Just try not to slip the clutch too much!
