Re: new thermostat, new problems

I am running that exact stant, and I haven't had any problems, been in mine since about 10000 miles ago. I am 05 3.5 L. My Temp guage needle stays in the same place as it always has, one mark below half. Do not have a scan guage, so I do not know what my actual temps are.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

have heard that all stants are 194's even if they are listed for the 04-06's as a 180. I am looking for the post I had seen about the thermostat numbers and sizes.

hope you find it, wonder why they would list them like that?

well, it never gets above 201 on the interstate and it sits and 197-199 just cruising around. So it is working, is that what is should run if it is a 194??

Mine runs below half when I'm traveling. Just sitting there and it will climb.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

IF your really worried about it just pull teh thing and test it on the stove bro.

But no..as long as the temp stays within spec, its not gonna hurt anything. i like my engine to be cooler myself. But todays engines run hotter. My 3.5 ran at like one mark below half, and now my 3.7 runs at about half all the time. Not to mention teh stock gauge is a joke.. but still long as it doesnt get way up to like the red mark or something I would run it.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

Your temps are normal. Mine is running at the same temps with an OEM 194F t-stat from the dealership. Weird that the priced vary so much though. Mine was listed at $34.95 but paid wholesale of $26.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

Is it possible to install the thermostat in such a way that it gets in a bind? Perhaps it's not mounted flush and it won't open fully??

Also, if you elect to change it again, test it first. Put a new thermostat in a pot of water and boil it to make sure it works. If you have a thermometer you can check the water temp as it begins to open.

You should be fine with a Stant. I have NEVER replaced a thermostat with a stock and never had problems.

P.S. Don't test your thermostat in a pot of water if you have used it already. I'm sure the residual anti-freeze won't be great to use in your cooking pots.

My stock 3.7 has 40k miles and runs from 187 to almost 210 (according to Ultragauge). I hate that it runs 210, I think the cooling system design is inadequate for the vehicle. No excuse in the year 2008 to cool so poorly. There is too much technology out there.
Good luck.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

The t-stat is mounted in a housing from the manufacturer. So, it shouldn't get mounted incorrectly.

New vehicles are designed to run in the 195F to 215F range for lower emissions. I've had mine go up as high as 237F when we had ambient temps hitting 124F in the summer of 2007. My truck still runs fine and now has close to 165k miles albeit now on the second t-stat.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

my truck runs 195-210ish.
stant makes a very good thermostat, i have a new one sitting in my truck waiting to go in.

if you turn them over the temperature rating will be stamped into the brass part in the center.

Re: new thermostat, new problems

I think I am gonna go back and swap in my 180 I don't run emissions devices and I know I used to get good gas mileage before I went to an 05 engine with the 194
