Re: 3.5L manual trans?

Is not a straight swap dirtyboy. You'd have to both get new output shafts and tailhousings.

Overall I can't see it being that difficult other than seeing how the computer would respond

Assuming parts are able to be swapped without major modification

I think it was available (though very rare) with non Z71 crew cab trucks, and extended and regular cab trucks with the Z71 package. I'm sure someone else will chime in...hard to know for sure as 3.5 5 speeds 4x4 trucks are so rare to begin with.
The 3.7 was never offered with a manual trans.

Yes it was.

A 4x4 cannot be converted to 4x2 without a complete rebuild, and even then I'm not sure. The 4 cyl and 5cyl manuanl trans is identical. However, the flywheel and clutch are different. For going auto to manual or vice-versa, the PCM would have to be reflashed.

The AR5 is quite cheap in yards. I've heard of them selling for under $300 in good condition. In fact there are several on car-part.com for that price.

<= swapped an AR5 into his supra.

It all should swap. We're both 4x4 3.5. We'd have to switch CPUs and wiring harnesses. You would also want to replace the clutch since it would be apart. It's had a hard life of big tires. You should have a place in your firewall for the clutch master cylinder and pedal. Well have tp swap my flywheel for your flex plate and I'd have to get a h3 floor shifter. I believe that's it but I could have missed some things.

The more I think about this the more I want to do it. Still gonna take a lot more research. What about tranny lines? Prob an easy fix. A little concerned that you are a regular cab and I am a crew. What about rear end gearing? Will my stock gearing be alright? If we swap CPUs will that affect out mileage readout?

I would be interested in hearing from other forum members on this

Re: 3.5L manual trans?

Your PCM doesn't keep mileage. I believe it's the bcm. Crew cab ext reg its all the same. When you say tranny lines are you talking about to a cooler? I have the v8 radiator so I would use it and get lines for it. Rear end gearing are the same. My PCM is tuned for the 5 speed by emaxxer.

The PCM doesn't hold mileage, but it does hold your VIN. You'd still need to reprogram.

Re: 3.5L manual trans?

So it'd probably be easier for me to get another PCM and have someone pretune it to my truck.

Yep, unless you don't mind the downtime.

Re: 3.5L manual trans?

Manual trans doesn't use a cooler so lines going to the radiator would be a non-issue.

Right. I would just have to plug them at the radiator. He would have to run new lines, though

Re: 3.5L manual trans?

I have a v8 radiator that has the cooler in the bottom. Unless you upgraded then you'd just have a normal trans cooler in front of your radiator that you'd have to remove. I'd just cap them off and run it without a cooler for now.

Re: 3.5L manual trans?

I'm trying to find the pieces I need to finally get rid of this 5 speed. Hardest thing is goin to be finding a tranny I believe. I really don't wanna pay $800 or more for one lol. That and the h3 floor shifter.
