09 3.7 gut first cat.. Yes , no.. Should I ?

Hey guys, on my 2006 2.8 I had gutted my first cat and I only saw improvements, one of the best mod I've done to it

Now I bought a 09 3.7 and I was wondering if I was gonna come with similar result, I've read multiple tread and I can't find good info..

I'm willing to eighter relocate the first o2 sensor down or add a no fouler to the second sensor but I can't decide what option would be the best...

Power loss, power gain.. Again idea are not clear..

Thanks a lot guys. I'm a bit counfse with my new 3.7

My advice would be to buy a 3.5 manifold port and gut it and put that on. That worked better on mine. Yes it will make a little diffence.

Yes, gutting the cat will always show a better performance than leaving it stock due to the restriction

I'm trying to avoid spending 200$ on a 3.5 manifold that I'm gonna gut... At this point I would buy headers...

I was more Loking for info and outcomes from ppl that gutted their primary cat on their 3.7 manifold.

And I believe that the o2 sensor on the 3.5 is not at the same position and that its throwing a cel...

if you take off the second cat you wont get a code.. im not sure about the first i left that one alone more expensive to replace if you gut it might as well buy some headers..

Re: 09 3.7 gut first cat.. Yes , no.. Should I ?

The 3.7's have an 02 right in front of the first CAT and then one right after the CAT. you WILL have to move the second 02 to behind the 2nd CAT or you will get codes, fouler will not fix this. on the 3.7's the second 02 is still referenced not just for checking the efficiency of the Converter, but also used for checking/ correcting fuel trims in a small way, so if you put a non fouler in, it wouldnt CEL immediately, but after a day or so it would... I personally did not like the sound of my 3.7 CAT gutted, very rattly and pingy, some others like this. I really wish I would have just waited and bought my OTTP header first before gutting my factory CAT. :-)

The non fouler worked on my 2008 for over a year and a half. Never moved the downstream o2 sensor either . Also the sensor bungs on 3.5 and 3.7 are very close if not exactly in the same locations.

The 3.7 has 2 o2 sensors on the manifold while the 3.5 has only one bro... Not exactly the same...

I bought it already gutted from Canyon08Z71, but nothing else was modified. I used two non foulers, just the first one drilled out 1/2"

the 3.5's have one in front of the manifold cat and then a second one after the second cat. 3.7's have on in front of the mani cat and one right after the mani cat. i relocated mine to after second cat because it was easy and didnt want to throw any codes. now it doesnt matter since I have HPT and no cats anyways.

What you mean by a plug? To close the opening that its gonna do when I move the second sensor down after the second cat?
