Re: shaved tailgate on a dime

its not a high stress point, but i have seen tons of tail gates that look good for a few days and then it get wavey or a chunk of bondo falls off. filling anything has to be done right or it will come back to haunt you.

and no one will hold it against you for being poor and cheaply building stuff. hell i encourage it, if you find a cheaper way for me to do something that i want to do then i will do it for cheaper (thanks to you)

but we will hold it against you if the work is shoddy and in the end all you are doing is butchering a perfectly good truck. the world is full of hack masters.

but remember the time, money, and effort you put into a vehicle is more than apparent in the finished product. you will thank your self.

Re: shaved tailgate on a dime

i have not nor will i ever use more than 1/8 inch of bondo or filler of any kind . as you say i take pride in my work !!! i can't tell you how may times i have reworked stuff , just because it didn't feel right . poor and cheap doesn't mean shoddy to me !!!

Re: shaved tailgate on a dime

the weather wasn't as bad as they predicted , so out i went . made a wooden template of contour of tailgate . then moved to spot i welded in close but no cigar , but workable . main thing i did today was fix one of the end gate strikers here are the pictures , turned out good even if i have say so .

Re: shaved tailgate on a dime

only one picture today , tried to spray a little paint on the patch , looks like dung , not because of the patch because it was to cold to paint . may have to wait to warmer days . as always commits and suggestions welcome

Re: shaved tailgate on a dime

sandable primer kicks ass. kitchen sponge wrapped in sandpaper does wonders. long strokes blend. clean everything 10 million times. if you think you cleaned everything well....clean it again. you can never prepare enough for painting.
