Re: steering wheel swap

Its real dangerous and voids insurance....litterally.

But

The adapter from a 91 probe is about the closest youll find aftermarket.

Its a real bitch to get the airbag to pop out and its no fun trying not to kill the clock spring.

Srslytho, if its a street vehicle, its not worth the legal shit.

Re: steering wheel swap

call your insurance company first. some yes SOME might care. but most yes MOST insurance cos wont care. i have state farm, one of the bigget insurance cos out there and they WILL still cover you.

FYI thats liek sayin your insurance co wont cover you if you dont have your seat belt on..

but to answer the OP question, no one makes a adapter to put after market wheels on the 355....yet.

Re: steering wheel swap

First of all, no one makes the adapter, secondly, bk2life, you better check again with State Farm. They will not cover me. The bag is a federally required safety part, and I am not allowed, by federal law, to remove it for on highway use, only for offroad use. With that said, the only aftermarket steering wheels I know of for our trucks are available at carid.com. One costs $100 and the better one, like Jesse's, Steering wheel.., is $300. The link in Jesse's thread does not work, but if you go to car id, they are listed under the colorado.

I used the 91 Probe adapter at first. Wasn't safe at all. So I cut the stem off the steering column on a S10. Cut the stem off my Canyon, then welded the S10 stem on. Just used an adapted for the S10 and worked perfect. It's nice and sturdy too. Iv tried multiple times trying to break the welds to test them. My welds held fine.

As for the insurance, I have State Farm. I called them after a huge fight on my old thread about aftermarket steering wheels. State Farm said would not affect any coverage till I wasn't wearing seat belts.

Re: steering wheel swap

Guess it depends on where you live, as my agent says federal and state law requires the equipment, an airbag, and without it she says my policy is void because I would not be legally driving the automobile.

The pic shows a grant 5 hole, you have a momo 6 hole. You can use a aluminum sweet quick disconnect and weld on the spline shaft. Hog out the plastic a little bit bigger than in guydro92 pic.

Yes, you could also do that. I just happen to have a junk S10 sitting around. So chopped the stem off the steering column and used that on my Canyon.

I installed a aftermarket steering wheel and have had no bad experiences. I also changed out the front and rear brake system on the truck with good luck. Just didn't like the abs system. It is your truck and you do what you please. Just keep the seat belts in check.

Re: steering wheel swap

yeah its whatever.. people will tell you omg don't notch your truck it will void the insurance wont matter.. most places dont give a fuck and wont notice unless you tell them or raise hell about something that makes them REALLY go over your truck with a fine tooth comb..

I had a lowered truck with a notch and TOTALED it.. and insurance damn near payed me more than I payed for it (and I have state farm)

as long as you dont wreck your truck BECAUSE the notch broke off.. then wont care

as long as you dont sue your insurance company BECAUSE you took the airbag off your own truck, they wont care..

they dont care what you do to your truck UNLESS what you did causes you to have a wreck or directly causes something to happen..

Like putting exhaust on a BRAND NEW truck.. then the exhaust rattles.. they haven't voided your warranty on the TRUCK.. but they sure as shit aren't going to fix your rattle under warranty.

make sense?

Thanks! What you do to mount your momo steering wheel? I'd love to put a momo steering wheel on, just don't have the money. Got the Grant wheel dirt cheap from a friend. So can't complain too much.
