How To: Install Passenger Side Key Lock for 2004-2006 trucks with manual door locks.

Parts Needed

19121155 ..... 1 .... RH Door Lock Cylinder

15847170 ..... 1 .... RH Door Handle w/ Lock Hole
11516421 ..... 2* .. RH Door Lock Cylinder Bolt
15931323 ..... 1 .... RH Door Latch with Key Lock Rods

*Notes:
- Some may have to pay for having the lock keyed to match
- You can avoid buying the orginal GM Bolts by going to Lowes and picking up a $.98 bag of M6 x 1.00 x 10 Hex Cap Bolts



Disassembly/Assembly

Assemble the Lock Cylinder to the Door Handle w/ Two Bolts; 10mm socket required.

Torque Bolts to 9 N-m (80 lb in).

Remove the three Latch Assy bolts; T-30 Torx Socket required.

Peel Back the Weather Liner.

Detach the single rod from the Door Handle. Unbolt and remove the Door Handle; 10mm socket required. To remove the Door Handle, Pick up slightly from the outside and pull outward from the bottom.

Door Handle removed; outside view (It's wise to use this opportunity to clean around the door handle opening).

Door Handle removed; inside view.

Unbolt the lower portion of the Window Run Channel and position away from the Latch Assy; 10mm socket required.

Remove the Latch Assy (note: cables still attached to inner door handle).

Latch Assembly Removed.

Install the new Latch Assy in the same position as the old; Torque Torx Bolts to 7 N-m (62 lb in).

New Latch Assy installed; outside view.

Unclip the original cables from the plastic retainer. Remove the inner door handle by sliding rearward and pulling out. Release the old cables from the inner door handle (note which goes where).

Place the old Latch Assy to the side. Attach the new Latch Assy Cables to the inner door handle. Reinstall the inner door handle. Place the cables back into the plastic clip and secure.

Reposition the Window Run Channel back to it's original postion and secure into place with the bolt; Torque to 9 N-m (80 lb in).

New dual Lock Rods ready to be attached to the handle.

Insert each Rod into the plastic clip on the door handle and secure. Re-bolt the Door Handle to the Door; Torque bolts to 9 N-m (80 lb in).

Reapply Weather Liner back to the inner door.

Passenger Door Lock Installed!!

The locking assembly is supposed to turn when you strap it on the handle right? I followed the directions on the key assembly and seemed to mess it up I think. My key won't turn the lock for some reason when it's just attached to the handle.

Thanks for this great how-to! Motivated me to join the forum. Couple things
  • The part number for the door handle w/keyhole (15847170) is no longer available at GMPartsDirect. I emailed them, thier new part number is 25875522
    • Has anyone tried items from CarPartsWholesale? Here's the link to the handle I'm looking at, (not OEM but 1/4 the price)
  • Used parts/ power locks: would any parts from a vehicle with power locks work? If so, which ones? ... junk yards didn't have any Colorados when the OP was written, but it might be a good option these days
PS I wish all how-to's had full photos! (One photo got duplicated, new latch assembly from outside, but still very helpful)
