I just got a tool catalog in the mail and of course started flipping through it as soon as I got it..I flip to the welding section because Im interested in starting to weld and some fabrication. Hobart has a welder model 125ez. It says its a good welder to weld up to 3/16th metal and doesnt require any gas. Its also in a price range that I wouldnt mind spending..about 300 dollars. I can also use it on my regular house electrical sockets. So I guess the question is does anyone have any experience on this machine/hobart welders?

No prob. That was the first welder I bought and it still works perfectly. You can pickup tanks for gas down at harbor freight and they are only like $80ish. I dunno if they got a company called Air Gas where ur at but u can get a bottle filled with a argon/co2 mix for about $15

The unit plugs into a 120V (20 amp) outlet.

This is here because of the stupid 5 character minimum for posts.

I have had a Hobart about 10 years now. Best piece of equiptment I ever bought. Made me more new friends than if Miss America was my girlfriend. 125 is there amp rating.
Get as much amps as you can afford. 155-185 is more preferable if your are going to weld angle iron and tube. Make sure it is fan cooled and get one with as much duty cycle as you can. Buy a welder for the metal worker you will become, not the metal worker you are.

i've used a hobart 140 before, we built a buddy's tacoma with it. its pretty damn badass for a 110 welder.

definitely get your self some MIG mix gas. none of that flux core shit.

however, like FMRJPR said, get the biggest, baddest welder you can afford. and getting 220 in your garage might not be a big deal. infact you might already have one for your dryer.

once i get my own place i'm going to be using a millermatic 180

hobart i owned my miller first off so yes its a good mid grade welder that will last just as long as any welder if you take care of it... as far as no gas .. thats farm boy welding using fulx cored with innershield ... if you can afford it get a welder that uses gas and if you want to still use flux core use outershield fulx core thats with gas 75/25 or 80/20 or straight C02
