So I had an opportunity to hit my speed limiter this weekend. 103.6 mph. Better than 98 mph but I'm kinda pissed - I asked PCMforless to bump it up and they told me they usually set it to 130+.
While I don't usually go above about 90 mph I'd like to be able to in an emergency. Going to call them today and see what they say.
I forgot that was GPS. I suspect they didn't even bother to change the speed limiter and the only reason I got faster is that my tires are about 4% too large.
98 * 1.04 = 102 mph indicated. Entirely possible the other 1.6 mph is speedo error ( not like we have police calibrated speedos )
*edit* Really makes me question the tune and what else they may have not done that I asked.....
i know so many ppl that got a PCMforless tune.. and it was really a crapy tune.. its like they didn't do anything.. hell another buddy, they disabled his traction control. i really don't recommend them at all..
Its only crap when you do it via Mail, I went and had them tune me in person while driving from MI to FL. I got a full tune from them, and its amazing!
I suspect I'm going to see if they will refund me and set me back to stock. I've been unhappy with it and getting more so as time goes by.
I went with them because I can't afford to get tuner myself ( yet ) and there is no one near me that can do it. I may have to get up to CT to get tuned by Gerry.
Ha isn't ironic how a few months back ppl were praising this pcm4less tunes and now the realize the truth. I get these guys that come to my counter saying how great the tune is and when I tell them its really shit they get insulted. Thanks for starting this thread.
Generally speaking, I read a lot of ppl on this forum and others saying how good it is. I just nevered agreed w/ them. Lately little by little more complaints have been coming up and have to do w/ how poor the quality of their tunes are. Did I explain myself better?
I just wanted to say Im glad this thread was started. Before I got on this site I always used to read threads of how happy everyone was with their (pcm)tune. Im glad I read all of this information and found out about a couple other tuners that I would rather deal with.

I really liked the difference between stock and the tune but over time I noticed more and more things I didn't like.
When I roll off the gas and then back on the truck jerks and the transmission bangs.
They didn't change the speed limiter like I asked them to.
The idle is a little bizarre sometimes and cleaning the throttlebody and MAF didn't help - only did this after.
Most of the folks over here came here after some fallout about PCMforless.

my STOCK truck does this horribly

i can see you being upset about that, so give them a chance to correct it

its possible the tune has something to do with this but seeing how they SHOULDNT mess with the idle cells AT ALL i dont see how. what RPM does your truck idle at. again, wouldnt you think letting them take another look at your tune MIGHT atleast help
Most of the folks over here came here after some fallout about PCMforless. the fallout happened because these trucks are getting older and more miles on them and people are confusing coincidence with a problem with a tune, fact is a mail order tune isnt something you should notice a drastic change in because it has to be conservative enough to be considered safe. shift harshness will be noticed, but not much else. if you want a personalized tune dont pay for a mail order tune then complain that its not perfect, THEN not allow the person to attempt to make it better. its the purchasers responsibility to realize this is a MAIL ORDER tune and not one done on a dyno or street with the tuner personally fine tuning to your vehicles liking.
and i have no affiliation with them, i have never met alvin or kelly, and have never spoken to or PMed then, i just happen to be a honda tuner myself and i know how people always start to notice these little problems they never noticed before after spending a little money. like oh now my car runs bad, after all i did was bumped the redline or changed the vtec crossover point.
rangerbob, which octane tune did you get? Have you ever experienced a hard start problem since you've had your tune? When did you get your PCM4Less tune?
Honestly, I've seen enough problems with the PCM4Less tunes that I wouldn't recommend them. I informed them of all of my complaints and they said they'd fix it for free, but if I wanted a loaner then I'd have to give them a deposit and everything. I was considering doing it until I got to see Brewer's 2 day old tune at the OH meet in May when stocker2 retuned him, his tune was a year newer than mine. It should have been an "updated" version at this point, but I saw the things in his tune that would potentially cause the same problems I've had.
I need to email stocker2, I might be heading in his direction in a couple weeks to see family and might have him fix my tune on my way through.
Ive only seen one of these tunes up close. The only thing that was strange was that the torque management was still not completely removed. They kept it on a sliding scale of reduction as the RPMs rised. even though the nameless owner asked for it to be completely taken off. Needless to say, he wasnt thrilled when i informed him.
I got my tune during the summer of '06, I think it was around May or June. I'll explain why I asked about the hard start as I think it may be a common problem with their tunes that a lot of people don't realize. I got the 91 octane tune.
Since the first day I installed their tune I've had intermittent problems with a hard start, sometimes it would crank a little longer than normal and sometimes it would actually lock up mid crank and then try to re-engage the starter which would cause the starter to grind against the flywheel. I had never had this problem before the tune, I intitially thought maybe it had to do with the CASE relearn or it was just a new problem with my truck. There have been others that hadn't been tuned that had had similar problems. I could sometimes go months without it stopping and grinding the starter, but I finally realized over about a year span that it did it EVERY time I was unable to fill up at a gas station with 93 octane fuel. If I filled up with 89, I would have constant starting problems until I refilled with 93. It seemed odd to me, because it acted exactly the same way my '79 Silverado did when the timing was too far advanced. It would lock up mid start, except the starter in it had enough torque to shear the teeth off of the flywheel. I didn't understand why it would act like it had too much timing advance at startup, there wouldn't be any reason to modify that in a tune. I assumed it must be something else because I figured with their "10+ years experience" they wouldn't add timing that low where it isn't needed. When stocker2 pulled up Brewers 2 day old PCM4Less tune I saw what I needed to see immediately. +6 degrees of timing @ ~750rpm's, Brewer said he noticed his truck took a little longer to start up with the new tune. I knew then that it'd be a waste of time to send my PCM back to them, and that it'd be more valuable to me to know exactly what they fucked up the first time. Whenever I have time to drive over to stocker2 to have him retune it I'll be sure to see if that's my real problem and will share my findings.
This is just the potentially harmful thing that's wrong with my tune. There are also several other driveability problems that have made it downright annoying to drive. I will write a full review and give as much info as I can after I get everything fixed and figure out what's really wrong with it.
I think you and I got a tune from them within a month. I think I may have actually ordered it June/July.
Have you noticed the lurching or banging of the transmission and drive shaft? Sometimes it's so bad I have to slam the clutch in to keep from feeling like my transmission is going to fall off. Does it to me when I give it a bit of gas, then roll off, then roll back onto the gas.
I have an auto, but I have several driveability problems that are tune related. I do sometimes get something similar to the problem you're having but it's from the transmission hunting for a gear at light throttle and low speeds (~30mph). It's trying to shift into OD way too soon, with the firmer shifts from the tune it will sometimes make pretty strange noises.
I'm not straight out bashing PCM4Less, but I feel it's necessary to share my problems. That was the whole point that this forum was generated, to give a place for people to discuss 355's and the products offered for them freely, without fear of being banned or the truth being hidden. If I just wanted to bash them I would just say "THEY SUCK!" and not give a reason. PCM4Less' tune is far from perfect, and there are tons of people that feel the same as I do. Maybe they don't realize the extent of their problems because nobody really talks about them publicly, I don't know. The reason I am choosing to have my tune looked at by someone else instead of letting them fix it is because I want to know exactly what is wrong, what they did, if it was what I asked for, and I want it fixed right in one shot. I lost my confidence in them for two reasons, 1) They disabled the C.A.S.E. CEL without telling me, without my permission, and without my approval. I found out a month after I had my tune because they randomly mentioned it in a thread. 2) After seeing some of Brewer's tune I realized that an additional year of experience didn't net them any better of a tune. They also "removed" the cat overtemp protection from his tune without asking him or telling him by setting the temperature at a point it could never reach. They also set his WOT 3-4 shift at something like 80mph, which is about where his WOT 2-3 shift should be. Me sending my PCM back to them to 'fix' it would be a waste of my time in my honest opinion, and I was afraid of what else they would 'fix' without asking.
C04, I understand if you don't want to say anything about this, so this is all I will say to you on the matter: I don't understand what took place that made you so soft on this issue, but it confuses me to say the least.

That and some people that already have their product may not realize a problem they're having could potentially be caused by the tune, like the hard start. I'm not saying everyone that has a hard start problem and a tune is having the same problem, but it's something to consider when trying to diagnose it.
Josh with VMP i doubt you have to worry. they are very well known for tuning fords and i know a few GM people around here that have gotten dyno tunes by them. my friend with an 02 Trans Am got dyno tuned by them and said hes loved it the whole time. dont remember how much power he said he picked up but it was a good amount
*sighs* I called on Monday I guess and left a voicemail. Kelly called me back but I was on a tele-con and couldn't answer. I've been trying to call her back a couple times each day with no response. Left a message - hopefully they'll call before I have to get on tele-cons from 1500 EDT until the end of the day.
They are willing to send me a core ( and charge me the core fee ) to "take a look at it". I don't know what they are going to find or change if they "take a look at it" and based on what I've read and heard from other folks that have been tuned by them.
They are not willing to just set me back to stock and refund my money however, not even a partial, because "it's been a year".
Guess this was money down the drain. I like the extra power but don't like the little gremlins that are in the tune. You'd think they would have things worked out pretty good with how much tuning experience they have.

Rangerbob and others that have had issues, sorry to hear about your poor performance and luck with PCM4less. I was just never a fan of the idea of mailing one in and hoping you got what yuo paid for.
Last summer I drove to NC from MD to get my tune done from 91sdime on the "other site". By doing it in person you can tweak it as needed. Dan tuned mine and we test drove my truck. After that run we tweaked it some more and drove it again.....it was money. A year later it still performs like it did the day I got it tuned. The only issue being, it took the transmission awhile to adjust to the tune, but its good to go.
I was able to top my truck out with a paasenger at 134mph. Shit ask Rangerbob how strong my truck runs.
Another thought for you guys to ponder. If you completely REMOVE the torque management, you will lose the Traction Control. On the Rados the Torque Management and the Traction Control system piggy back each other. So in the long run you can't have yuor cake and eat it to! Trust me you learn how to operate without if you want the extra power off the line.
I also believe the ABS is linked to the T/C somehow. Will completely removing the tq management make the vehicle run irregular or will you jus have no T/C?
