Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

So yesterday I removed the grille assembly to take a look at possibly re routing my block heater cable, and when I went to snap the assembly back in place a piece broke off. The chevy grilles are two piece compared to the GMC grilles (and far flimsier). The part near the aesthetic vents broke clear off and so the grille was flopping around a fair bit. I was at my dads, and tried to gorilla glue it back together with a the help of a hair dryer and no go.

So I took the broken grille off the truck and threw on my stock grille today. Missing the colour matched look already but at least the oem doesn't look completely like shit.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

I've broken all the clips on the sides of my grill by the headlights. Ended up drilling some hidden holes and zip tieing it to the body

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

The part of the outer grille with the little guide pole piece that connects to the inside part snapped right off. Basically where the side vents start after the curve. Ended up buying some plastic weld stuff, and it took some patience but I got the pieces back together. Not the nicest job but so far day 2 and the plastic weld hasn't busted off in the cold yet driving around.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

That's perfect. Love your license plate to.

Our axles are offset slightly in the rear like the old S10/Blazers arent they? (<- Went and looked, passenger side rear sits out bout 1/2 to 3/4" more while the driver side is pretty close). Do you have a shot down the drivers side by chance?

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

Nothing handy.

Went for a drive today. Rescued these wheels from a totaled Xtreme an hour north of me. They will need some TLC. Also drove back through a national park right as the sun was going down.

Thanks. I change cameras a lot but usually fall back to the Canon 6D

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

The center caps didn't match the wheel's, so I went and had them sprayed with scorpion bedliner. I went with Sepang Bronze (BMW Colour). Ran into an issue with one of the wheels being dented and not being able to balance. I never noticed but next time I buy used wheels I'll just throw them on a balancer to make sure they actually are good to go before paint. So I have to get one fixed before I can mount them on the truck. Regardless, the colour and bed liner texture turned out pretty good.

I was a a bit hesitant about going this route, but I didn't want to try colour matching powder coating with the center caps. This option seemed like less hassle and worth a try. This bronze is a lot darker then my current wheels.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

Installed the wheels. I had to get a dent fixed locally and had it back the next day. These wheels sit almost flush with the fenders (stick out a tiny bit) and hopefully will fix the rubbing issue I was having with the aftermarket wheels. I usually clipped the fender on steep ramps or general off road stuff and these wheels sit in an inch closer. They are 18x8 (+28mm) and the Methods are 18x9 (-12). I already opened up most of the inner fender, so these wheels will be sitting in the sweet spot. Worst comes to worst I lightly rub the sway bar at full turn (edit: I do, but its minor).

So I'm probably going to install a set of Toyo MT's as I find them super quiet for an MT. If Fountain Tire has a 3 for 4 promotion again in the near future, I might go with a 255/70/18 Duratrac, but not sure yet. I find that size is a bit too uncommon, while 275/65/18 is available everywhere.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

So the last few days I drove around on the xtremes/duratracs and wanted to see if I rubbed anywhere before getting new tires. Everything seems good, so I put an order in on the 6th for a set of Cooper STT Pro tires, and they came in today. So I went down to the local performance shop, and had them installed. On that note, if anyone watches highway through hell (I dont), that Mike guy on the show works at this shop and installed the tires on my truck. Small world.

While I was there, I spoke with the guy who did my street tune, and he was willing to stay a bit later and run my truck on the mustang dyno. So I have some updated figures now. Truck is currently running 259hp and 265lb/ft of torque at the wheels. Keep in mind this is an economy tune for regular fuel.
The sept run (3) was without the efan, no tune, and I had a less restrictive center muffler installed. Detonation and everything was all over the map.
The street tune (2) was with the efan, larger center muffler, and as the name implies; tuned on the street.
The first tune (1), is the street tune modified on the dyno.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

Drove down to Calgary and had Matt from Fullblast Customs make up a bracket for my sPOD unit. There was no room for it otherwise. The bracket mount screws down to that bracket near the alternator and under that slider that the battery strap is screwed onto. The battery is still a stocker from when the truck is new, which is pushing 5 years. So I wanted to bracket far enough away I can still strap down a larger group 34 battery when I get around to replacing the stock unit.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

Went up north and visited my buddies place. I took my tent out of storage, and toss it back on the truck. Also had to rework the rotopax mount but it's on the truck properly. Also wired in my light bar to the sPOD system and gave it a whirl. Finally I also installed some larger mudflaps I had laying around on the back of the truck.

Re: Clutch's The Yeti build

Thought my steering felt a tad off. One of the quick disconnects broke. The holding pin must have worked loose and the up/down movement broke the other part. I got extra heads, but I'm not running these anymore. Just going to stick with stock, less worry.
