Operation Desert Ghost (PICTURE HEAVY)

Hey everyone, been a member since about 2012 but had a falling out from the forum for the passed couple years. I just got tired of seeing all the cool rides and mods people were doing to the trucks but never having enough money or time for my own so I got super burnt out on my truck and just left it alone for a while. I've been going to college in Missouri but I recently got back to Arizona around May and decided to take some time off from school and go to work and make some money. I was only home in Arizona for about 2 weeks before I went up to Alaska to work for the summer and I just got back last Thursday. Now I am working here in Arizona but I have some spending money so I thought it was time to get back on the horse and start cleaning up the truck a bit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy driving it but I just wasn't proud of the direction I took her. I did the majority of the mods when I was 16-17 but now that I'm almost 21, I just don't see some of the stuff I did as cool anymore and I've been wanting to change it for a while.

So that brings me to Operation Desert Ghost which is the new direction I'll be taking my truck. I'm throwing a round a bunch of ideas in my head and this thread will keep me organized as well as keep you all updated on my progress Right now there's a bunch of little things I want to fix like the chipping door handles, dents in the fenders and faded plastic all over not to mention plasti dip overspray like a mother (Ive plasti dipped the whole truck about 4-5 times) So basically I'm gonna clean the truck up and try to get it presentable looking again.

So Far on my to do list is:
-Sell the bed cover and rhino line the bed
-Replace the grill...again
-Hide shit behind grill with diamond mesh or something
-Either paint the old bumpers or replace them since the matte black powdercoat job has faded
-Add a lift kit or not lmao
-Add an exhaust system
-Tint the windows
-New hood maybe?

These are all the ideas I have right now But I'm gonna definitely follow through with some of them!

Here's how my truck sits currently:

Faded ass bumper

Gross melted plasti dip residue :/

Chipped handles

So what do yall think?????

Some reason I thought you had sold the truck. Welcome back! What you doing with the flares that are on your truck currently since your replacing them, been tossing the idea of a set around, and may be interested in them.

Looky who's back. I wondered what happened to ya. I got back into the forum about a year ago after a couple of years away.
Are you going to be getting out into the desert? Last time, it seems you were not wheeling much. You called your truck a mall cruiser.

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

@jm0710 I was planning on throwing them out because the passenger side rear fender has damage from when I backed into another vehicle and they're all covered in nasty plasti dip residue that I can't seem to get off. Plus when I remove them, they're held on by plastic anchors as well as 3M double sided tape so they'll be somewhat ruined after the removal.

@Uncanny355 the plastic that holds the passenger side clip under the DRL is broken off is the grill is just sitting there wiggling around. I was gonna remove the grill and keep it for the clips and such. The billet insert is staying with me, I'm gonna install that in the new grill.

@MT_Sourdough Since I don't want to sell it and don't want a new vehicle either I planned on doing some upgrades to it and actually take it out wheeling in the desert. Nothing crazy like flying through brush like some pre runner truck but just something to rock crawl on trails

Well got the bed cover and carpet removed, now I have to get rid of all the velcro pieces! A while back we bedlinered the rails and top of tailgate with white gator guard. Over time it got this yellow hue and the plastidip from past sprays has been stuck to it. I'm hoping the bed liner guys can clean it up for me

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

The goal is to change the look and clean up a bunch of mistakes my younger self did but also make it so I can take it on trails and not worry about messing it up too bad. I'm debating on rhino lining the bumpers black or painting them gloss white

This is what the design of the new grill is going to look like too

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

Do you think an all white bumper and plastic valence would look good though?

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

Found a replacement bumper on craigslist but decided after I already got it that I'm just going to paint my existing bumper and valence gloss white

Truck gets bedlinered today as well I'll post pics when she's done!

If someone could move this thread to the projects and build thread that would be cool, thanks!!

Powdercoat will hold up better on the bumper.

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

My white truck (wt '09) has the painted bumper, but the valance underneath is stock color (a dark gray or black). I have seen them painted white and don't have an opinion either way. Both look good. Someone on here had pictures of their truck with the valance painted white.

Re: Operation Desert Ghost

That's what I did on my first bumpers, matte black powder coat but over time it's faded to a grayish clouded color :/ the guy who is going to paint them is a family friend who owns a shop so he was gonna do it for cheap. I thought about vinyl wrapping too but got quoted $300 per bumper for gloss white vinyl and I want the finish to last a long time with out fading or chipping so I'm staying away from plasti dip. I figured if they clear coat over the bumpers after painting it'll hold up for a while

I've seen color matched bumpers and valences and I think it'll look sweet!I plasti dipped my valence along time ago and now its chipped and peeling all over so I figured a good sanding job and gloss white paint would look nice. Also wanting to smooth out the texture of the valence
