Simple Build

Starting my build thread so I can keep track of my mods.

At the Used Car Dealer with 127k on it

Got the windows tinted and did the front pads this week but it has been raining. Hopefully I can get some pictures after it stops raining and I'll show everyone my huge amount of workspace in my parents garage that I get to work in. Putting 2" shackles from SMaxx, new Rancho shocks all around, 6000k HIDs and doing some Plasti-Dip stuff hopefully. Also getting new rims and tires tomorrow. Pics to follow.

Re: Simple Build

Clean truck for that mileage. Looks like you have a good idea of where you're headed with the truck

Re: Simple Build

I know where I am headed but everything on this truck seems to be giving me trouble. First off, you don't need to bleed our front brake pads to replace them, we don't have slip off rotors and there is no need in getting them turned when putting on new pads (per my mechanic). Then went to put on shackles today and I couldn't get the tension off of them. I followed the thread on here and cfans and SMaxx's instructions to the t and nothing. So it has been one after the other. I would like to do a lot of stuff on my own but I am new to working on cars and my father isn't much help. But he did just tell me that one of our family friends is a licensed mechanic so that might help out a bit.

Re: Simple Build

The calipers are bolted to the hub from the back. Pain to remove but they do fine stock.

The shackles might just need to torched or cut off. It's typical in areas where they salt in the winter

Re: Simple Build

Alright so to update....started to work on the shackles and after an hour or so of pulling, I couldn't get the bolts on the shackles loose, going to have to torch them off (damn salt). Moved on to getting some things plasti-dipped.

Re: Simple Build

Got an air compressor available. Had trouble with my shackles too. Soak them in PB blaster and then used air hammer to drive them out.

Found some little mud puddles and got a little dirty. The pictures don't do much justice. Going to try to get some pictures at dusk tonight, after I wash it.

Re: Simple Build

Sorry it took so long to get these been busy with school. But here are some pictures of the taillights through the plasti dip that were requested. Oh and by the way, the reverse lights do not shine through at all. So needless to say, I will be upgrading to either back up lights or doing the headlight/taillight mod here very shortly.

Re: Simple Build

When to an Offroad park up in Oxford and tested the truck out for the first time. Lessons learned, need bigger tires, more lift, winch, check the holes before driving into them, but overall pretty good first time out. I had a rock come up and wedge itself between the brake caliper and the dust cover that was a sigh of relief when I found that. But I did end up scratching one of my rims on a rock. I found it today when I washed it.

I have to thank the nation because without the help from you guys I wouldn't be where I am with this truck and wouldn't have future plans. Plans for the future are a winch bumper with recovery points and two sets of lights, one fog and one driving. Also a recovery rear bumper with led back-up lights. A set of Warn 55w 7" offroad lights, a VR8000 winch with synthetic rope, 4 position rocker switch panel mounted in the cab, a tool box, recovery items, maybe a cb, supermod efan, ported throttle body, supersparks, and blue and white led gauge cluster. This summer I plan on the bumpers, winch and the tool box to be installed and then the engine items next.

Re: Simple Build

Wow, they actually do shine through the plasti dip. Interesting.

When I tinted my tails I taped off the reverse light area. You might want to try that out

Re: Simple Build

I am saving up for a bumper that has white led lights in it so if I can make it to then I will be ok. But I have thought about that.

Re: Simple Build

What backspacing did you get on those wheels? Also in the second pic in your first post, that cupholder, did it come with or what cause I have the 60/40 seats also and I would kill to have that in mine.

Re: Simple Build

It came with that upholder. Is slides on and attaches to a metal bracket on the seat. And I think the backspacing on the wheels are 4.5-4.75.

Re: Simple Build

So a couple updates, I purchased some TAG bumpers, front and rear. I also purchased some rock sliders from Trail Gear. As well as some winter wheels from Summit Racing. I had everything installed this week. I also tore one of my cv boots, but for some reason, I have a special truck and my mechanic cannot get the hubs off without sending it to a machine shop to get it pressed off. He said that they tried everything to get them off. So I have to wait until I can save up a couple grand to do everything at once. He is afraid that he will tear the bearings out and all kinds of stuff, so once I have enough money saved up, I will get the rotors and cvs replaced as well as anything else they break. But anyway, on to the fun stuff. Here are some pictures of the bumpers and sliders. Let me know what yall think about the sliders, from everything I have seen, they are supposed to be angled more instead of flat like a step but since I took my truck to an offroad shop, I figured they would know what they are doing. But here come the pictures.

Extra light tabs for either 7" Warn HID lights or 9" LightForce HID Lights

I have a question about this, this is supposed to be the winch mounting plate but I personally think that it is a little small for a 10k lb winch. It is only about 6" deep. It is plenty wide enough. I can get exact measurements later if needed.

Here are the sliders.

The rear bumper, with a mount for a Hi-Lift Jack and (2) 10 diode LED lights wired to a switch in the cab.

And finally, the new winter wheels. They are the Summit Series 84 16x8 with a 4.0 in BS or -12.00 mm offset.

There is still more to come. My future plans included a 4" Rancho or Skyjacker Lift, 285/75 Treadwrights, 48" Xtreme Hi-Jack, 10k lb Smittybilt X20 winch, a toolbox and dual battery set up to run the winch setup, and anything else that I can think of. Let me know what you all think and any suggestions you guys have.
