Dynomax 39501 Exhaust - Colorado V8

Dynomax 39501 exhaust installed on my 2012 Colorado 5.3L. I wanted a bolt on exhaust that would retain the factory single exit. I HATE the rear exit tip so I did not use it. It sticks out about 4" passed the rear bumper. I have a slanted, angled, rectangle tip that I'll have welded on tomorrow and will post pics.

I bought the exhaust on Amazon for $270 with free shipping (arrived 5 days later). Dynomax also has a $75 rebate right now making the exhaust cost me $195!

The stock exhaust came off quickly (my truck has 500 miles on it). You will have to cut your stock exhaust to get it out. I cut before and after the stock muffler.

It took me 2 hours to install but I took an extra 30 minutes adjusting the exhaust for piece of mind and to make sure it didn't hit the body crossmember.

My wife has a Trailblazer SS with a Dynomax single exit exhaust and they sound almost identical.

Fit:
Exhaust came with all clamps and instructions. It's really simple and looks just like the factory one except for a little bigger pipes. Everything bolted right up without problems. The "y" merge sits about 1/2" above the body crossmember. I jacked both cats and right where the "y" merge is to help with clearance. Now it sits about 3" above that crossmember and shouldn't come in contact with it.

I also put red, hi-temp rtv sealant at all connections to ensure a tight fit.

Finish
All stainless steel with mandrel bends and slip fits. The band clamps are already made for the tubing so you don't have to mess around with trying to tighten them up first. I've installed several exhaust systems before and this one was by far the easiest.

Sound
I love the sound! It's about medium loudness. I can stand right behind the truck and not have to hold my ears when the motor is revved. It's also very deep with almost no rasp to it. Very, smooth, clean sound. However, between 1800-2200 rpms there is a little drone in the cab. The drone is minimal and you can still talk to your passengers. I think people that do not want any drone would still be happy with this system.
I found a little resonating inside the cab as well. It accompanies the drone but I do not see it being a problem for low tolerance people.

I talked to a tech at Dynomax and told him the dyno on their website showed a decrease in hp. He sent me the corrected dyno and it's listed below. They claim 22hp and 26 tq. From the driver's seat, I can't tell a difference in power.

First video is revs and the second is a WOT drive by and a 2nd gear pass at 40mph.

I dig it. Can you post some pics of the exit when you're done?

Re: Dynomax 39501 Exhaust - Colorado V8

I had a tip welded up to the exhaust and made it come out behind the wheel. I removed it right after it was installed. Did not like it at all. The exhaust is made a little lower than the stock setup in the rear so it can exit under the bumper allowing you to see all the piping underneath the truck. I cut it off right after the last exhaust hanger and I'm happy with it.

Re: Dynomax 39501 Exhaust - Colorado V8

I had the Dynomax kit on my S-10 and loved it. I think I got it for around $200. Same deal with the rebate. You really can't beat it. I'll have to get one for my '12 V8 Z71 soon.

Good to see exhaust support for our v8 trucks. Very nice sound.

Re: Dynomax 39501 Exhaust - Colorado V8

I just put this same system on 2012 v8 and had the same issues with the tip. The tip that comes with the kit just will not fit with our bumpers. Wrote Dynomax and they are sending me a 4 inch tip to take the place of the 12 inch that comes with the kit. If any of you other guys have put this system on and not satisfied with the tip, write them, it helped me. I told them a turn down would be the best but they said they didn't have one to fit this system.

Re: Dynomax 39501 Exhaust - Colorado V8

I installed this system on my truck in June 2011. I slid the tip on along ways so it ended just before the back bumper. Last week when getting on the freeway I kicked it down hard and when I let off the exhast drone was back. The little spring/flapper in the muffler broke or came loose. Dynomax said they are going to send me a new muffler as the VT has a limited life time warranty. Hopfully the next one last longer.
