Re: 5 Lug conversion... Project pics inside

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Update:

Looks like my ABS issue was a bad wheel speed sensor. I hooked up a tech 2 to the truck and saw that one of the new wheel sensor/hubs is "lazy". At very low speeds it drops out to 0 mph randomly from a 3 to 5 mph roll. Every where else it is fine. I have seen this before... no biggie, just have to replace it.

I am going to swap the hubs from left to right just to make sure that the problem follows the hub.

Then onto the next issue.

Later,
Max

Max, is this the final stance your looking at? Just finished mine. Measurement taken front frame rail bottom to ground is 7.5 inches and rear frame rail bottom is 14 inches (with out bed) weight. Rear i used 1.5 aluminum block. All measurements taken at end of frame.

Holy crap! How did I miss this?!!!! My truck is in dire need of a brake upgrade! I could care less about abs if I had stupid powerful brakes! It would be more like a road coarse truck which would be beautiful with a Colorado or canyon!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!

Pretty much the final stance. If I go any lower I think I will just hit everything, plus the suspension geometry is right at that ride height.

I have 2" blocks in the rear along with the 3" drop leafs from Belltech.

It's pretty low.

Re: 5 Lug conversion... Project pics inside

Replaced wheel hub assembly... It got rid of the 95% of the false ABS issue. Still happens every once in a while. So I am looking into the signal generated by each sensor type and see what the difference is now. The frequency/speed output is the same on both units, so it's probably an amplitude thing.

Redesigned the upper ball joint adapter in CAD and then I just have to make it and install. This will give me the caster that I want and get rid of the tram-lining/darty feeling it has at certain speeds & road conditions.

Sorry for the delays... it's the holidays and I have got tons of family in town for my Daughter's baptism now and have lots of great things planned for the next little bit (none of which involve my truck though). So it may be a a couple of weeks before I make any changes... but I will keep the post updated as I go on.

Getting closer

so will the upper ball joint also fix the bumps steer?

No it won't. But from driving it around "seat of the pants" it really feels like it just needs more caster. Just going to change one thing at a time.

A 100% true fix for the bump steer will require moving the rack or custom adapters at the knuckle... to get it 100% right. It's not too far off now... so I really believe caster is my issue at the moment.

Re: 5 Lug conversion... Project pics inside

Update:

So it was caster... Increased it and the problem went away, well, 95% of it. The rest I think is just the wide tires just following the road. Have to take it for a re-alignment to see how much I actually added, by some crude math I added about 3 to 4 degrees giving me a total of about 8 to 8.5 degrees of caster.

ABS issue, remains. Did some more research on the situation. As it turns out it seems that the 355 uses an active wheel sensor up front. Not 100% sure yet. I do know that the Vette is passive and requires no power. The 355 uses power to the sensor and uses a square current wave to generate the frequency related to speed signal. If anyone has the circuit schematic for this is would be appreciated. I am away on business for 2 weeks and when I get back I plan on hooking up my buddies Colorado to an oscilloscope and take some reading at a few points and see if an educated guess can be made at what the signal is suppose to look like on the output side of the sensor. From there a signal converter has to be made... not fun... but necessary it seems. Maybe someone has some extra info on this? Considering everything, it's amazing it only has issues at low speeds, maybe I am leaving something on the table, which would be ultra impressive considering how well it stops now. Feels like some one drops an anchor out of the bed when I step on the brake pedal now.

Still, have to hook up the E-brake... I will get to that soon, no rush as in it didn't work well before any ways.

WTRacing- when i was going through the thread i notice how you put 285 on the back of your zq8 and 275 on the front and was wondering do you think i would be able to put those sizes on my xtreme? im worried that might rub on the flares and just wondering how tight were they are your truck?
