Thought I'd throw some pics of my 5 lug conversion up. Basic idea is to adapt C6 Corvette knuckles to the colorado... Should be fun ![]() Before pics are attached. Currently running a set of Titan 18 Steelies with some Nitto 555's all the way around. Lowered 2.5" with Belltech coil Over kit, drop leafs out back (no blocks). This should be interesting to try and get the geometry right. Progress won't be lightning fast, but steady... Looking to install a set of 2006 C6 Z06 wheels and C6 Z06 brake calipers. Max |

Update: No pics yet... Lots of measuring. Putting some stuff into CAD and making sure that the geometry is good with the mods I make (ie: Roll center, camber gain, etc). This part is time consuming... Max |

For what are you doing this project ? there's a reason Chevy put 6 lug on this truck. lbs per wheel load. you can get much larger brakes if that's what you want or diff wheels.

As for GM having their reasons for doing what they did, I am sure they do. I am sure there decision has more to do with keeping things the same across all versions of this truck. A quad cab v8 weighing considerably more than my truck with a much higher towing capacity would probably be in more need of six lugs. My 3400 lb truck does not. Look at the weight of you average car with 5 lugs like a 2012 camaro or challenger, they are all in the neighborhood of 4000+ pounds and you don't see wheels falling off. The old s10 was 5 lug... Another reason why GM chose what they did was for "factor of safety" when considering there extreme cases. I can give many more examples. Plus the hubs that I am using are corvette hubs that are on the very same corvettes that get raced weekend in and out on slicks with coil over suspensions pulling over 1.5 lateral G with some aero. With that same aero at over 155 mph at summit point generating 4500 lbs of down force at that speed on our NASA TTU Corvette and have never seen a wheel fall off. I highly doubt I will go beyond that load magnitude on my redneck sports car . My intended use is some Road courses in the future once I get some data back from this baseline configuration. So based on what I have seen and done previously, I can comfortably perform this modification with little worries. No need to calculate shear/tensile/compressive forces on the studs to determine if it is safe to do. I will direct that energy/time to other areas of design. I appreciate the concern though. Max PS - please excuse any grammar mistakes, I did this off my iPhone. Later - | |
