So a few years ago I cut out the fog light mounts on my stock Xtreme bumper. I put in large fog lights with HID bulbs and loved the light output. But I since have a new Xtreme bumper and want to do the same without ruining the bumper.

Here's my progress so far, some of you might see what's going to happen here.

Stock OEM projector with billet overlay.

Piece of plastic I will be using.

Marking it to cut.

Cutting

First side cut out, next is fine trimming.

Test fit

Almost perfect, set behind the billet insert.

Cutting out and trimming the other side.

Both sides cut and trimmed to size.

I am waiting for the new lights to be delivered so I can cut the holes, paint, and final install. I might put a very light film of tint over the lense of the new fog lights so they aren't so obvious when they are not lit up.

I'm thinking about making a How-To on this if it works out like I expect.

The new lights were delivered today, and here is the pretty stainless hardware that I will be using for mounting the plastic plates to the bumper.

After I get the little guy down to bed tonight I will be heading out to the garage to finally put this whole thing together, hopefully it comes out like I've been imagining....

Here are the lights. Flush mount 3x2 18W cheapo Amazon lights. They are pretty bright, way brighter than the factory projectors. The reason I went with something that was low power is because these don't have cut off lines like the projectors, I didn't want to be blinding people. And these are a SPOT pattern, not the flood pattern.

Compared next to the OEM projector.

Now after getting the light up there to test fit and stuff, it didn't fit in the front as I had expected. :naughty: So I'm having to ditch the filler plates that I made and mount the lights from the back, just like how the projectors are mounted. For this I will NOT be cutting any of the bumper because I want to be able to return this setup back to stock if I wish.

I will be making the brackets today at work after doing my measuring last night, but here is a sneak peak of how they will look once installed. (Ignore the dirty bumper)

So I was able to fab up the brackets for the lights this morning. I left some length on both sides of it so I could trim down the excess if I needed to.
Cut down to size, measured for the bend.

Placed in the bender as a flat piece.

Bent to 90 degrees

Before and After

All brackets bent. I did not drill the holes yet since I can't just work on this all day at work lol I'll take these home, mock up, drill and mount them tonight. Hopefully should have this little project done by the end of today.

Alright ladies and gents, time to finish this up, lets get to it!

So here is the light mounted, not yet wired as you can see. There are a couple reasons that I did it this way. One, so I can remove and put the factory projector assembly back without removing my brackets, and two, this was the strongest way to mount them with no vibration.

The light looks offset to the left a bit in this pic but was adjusted properly at the end of the night.

Both sides mounted, next to wire them up. I used extra HID harnesses that I had laying around and these are plug-and-play, hooked up to the factory fog light button in the cab.

Finished product, low beams and fogs.

Fogs only.

Driving, lows and fogs

Parked in the street cleaning up for the night.

There are still a few things that I have to do. The driver’s side light needs to be adjusted and all bolts/nuts tightened again. And for the people thinking it, these are aimed at the same level, or just below the cut off lines for the factory projectors, I feel that these are positioned at the correct level to not be irritating or dangerous to other drivers. I left them on the whole way to work and not one person flashed me high beams. I am super happy with this little project, should have done this years ago. As far as I know this is the only Colorado Xtreme LED light pod mod that I've seen.

That turned out nice! I was fortunate that the Z71 trucks run the same bulb in the factory fogs as the high beams. With XML2's all around and both the fogs on with low beam and high beam conversions, my truck lights up the road like a football stadium at night. I have not had anyone flash their lights at me yet, I think the key is how they are aimed. Go ahead and do that fogs on with high beams conversion, it's not that hard.
