Welcome to 355Nation. The 09 V8 is the LH8 without VVT. The 10-12 V8 is the LH9 with VVT. I would stick with the LH8 because it does not have any kind of VVT, AFM, DFM, or DOD. Less parts to fail and will be more reliable.
Any remanufacture you recommend?Welcome to 355Nation. The 09 V8 is the LH8 without VVT. The 10-12 V8 is the LH9 with VVT. I would stick with the LH8 because it does not have any kind of VVT, AFM, DFM, or DOD. Less parts to fail and will be more reliable.
I have never had to replace an engine so I can't recommend anyone. Is rebuilding yours out of question? Hop it up a little bit while in there.Any remanufacture you recommend?
Not entirely out of question, haven’t opened it up to see the damage yetI have never had to replace an engine so I can't recommend anyone. Is rebuilding yours out of question? Hop it up a little bit while in there.
That way you get exactly what you want. Not entirely out of question
Thanks for all the info man. Do you know about how much it would cost all together to have the engine rebuilt? I have about $3500 to work with. You've got to remove that motor anyway, so why not start with that and assessing the damage? It's probably best to have a machine shop rebuild it. Plus you end up with a minty fresh motor setup how you like.
As others said, the LH8 is the motor you have and would want to find if replacing. It's an aluminum block Gen IV LS (58 tooth reluctor), found in H3's too but good luck finding one. If you did swap motors you would need to keep the low oil pan, the exhaust manifolds, and all that stuff that's on your truck right now so do not get rid of it.
With enough work, you could put any LS in there, but it's really not worth the hassle and cost to make it function as designed. I'd strongly suggest taking it to a reputable engine shop.
Could I install a LY5 in it?You've got to remove that motor anyway, so why not start with that and assessing the damage? It's probably best to have a machine shop rebuild it. Plus you end up with a minty fresh motor setup how you like.

That's a loaded question. If you pull the motor yourself and take it to a shop, $3500 may be in the ball park but it just entirely depends on what damage it has. May need new pistons, resleeved, head work, etc. Thanks for all the info man. Do you know about how much it would cost all together to have the engine rebuilt? I have about $3500 to work with.
Another LH8. That motor was also put in the full size GM trucks. What years exactly I don't know. My understanding was that GM de-tuned the version that went into the Canyon/Colorado.what engine with 58x reluctor and no dod and vvt will work?
Does anyone know what year transmission i have to use? I know it’s a 4l60e, but I not sure if it has to be a certain year.Another LH8. That motor was also put in the full size GM trucks.
