I have an 05 3.5 and I'm preparing to take the plunge and redo the timing chain (P0017 codes). As I'm looking for a source for a new VVT actuator, I'm noting the VVT part number changes over the years, along with significant changes in price. The part for the 04-05 engine is the most expensive, all are "remanufactured" and all demand a core charge ($100). The prices drop for the newer years and none are "remanufactured" nor are requiring a core charge. Are the VVT actuators compatible with each other or are they just different enough to keep me locked to the most expensive and hardest to find version?
Also, if there's a sound argument to not replace the VVT actuator, I'd love to hear it... :)
