My question is it worth buying a whole new alarm system just for remote start? I have a viper on my stang, but couldnt justify spending 500$ for a full viper setup on the truck. I know you can just add remote start to the truck but doesnt it disable the starter and fuel kill? Contemplating for xmas...lol

yeah when i refer to starter and fuel kill im talking about the passlock system. Its one of the features that I enjoy...Ensures my vehicle isnt going to drive off under its own power. If it wasnt for that i would just get a remote start. Has anybody had anyissues with an aftermarket screwing things up. I had a few buddys with silvys that as soon as they put it in the computers started going nuts and they had to have them uninstalled...??

to install a remote start feature you have to bypass the passlock, which means NO factory fuel cut (disables the injectors, starter still turns over, fuel pumps still primes, just no signal to the injectors). so if you want remote start AND an alarm you have to go aftermarket alarm.

the guy at the dealer said he could use the existing remote that the truck came with, all i would have to do is press the lock button three times and it would start.... to upgrade to this i think he said it would be $365... im wondering where i can get that module or whatever it is that you need to do this and just do it myself... anyone know anything about this?

If you really insist on going the cheap route you can pick up the Passlock bypass and just setup the aux function for the OEM remote, but I have never seen any wiring diagrams on that and it will probably be a fairly difficult thing to DIY. And if you pay a shop to do it you may as well just get a real alarm and do it. Vipers can be had for less than $200 on ebay.

Shop around because I have heard of installs being done for $200 or less.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem like mine....
Got a viper remote start put in (no alarm). I set it to stay running when i got out of the truck and as i got out i thought i would shut off the lights and just leave the park lights on. The second i moved the headlight switch the truck died(but the remote still said it was running). The truck wouldn't do anything with the remote and it wouldn't even start with the key.
Got the dealership to fix it, although they have no idea what they did to make it work.

Anybody else?

seeing as i go to a tech school and i have dealt with these viper alarms, im no specialist, or wise old mechanic, but it seems like they didnt tap into a constant 12V somewhere they should have sounds like they tapped into an
ACC or RAP power for sum wire they shouldnt have, or i have seen grounds come loose from where the "certified" viper installer used about 20 wire nuts and 5 different gauges of wire when they did there install... ive removed several because of parasitic drain purposes.... and i actually have one in my closet from a Chevy TrailBlazer....

On mine , when there is a new ele draw or the N switch is taken out it shuts down.
It has to be recycled with the key . The is to stop drive off , if you start it and put it in gear it will die and the key is needed to restart .
Look underneath your hood and see if there is a second ground on the hood light ?
