Re: AHelm's ZQ8 3LT - Time for a 5-speed swap!
Almost got away with not doing any modifications to my truck while it was in storage this winter. But a couple of weeks ago, I decided it would be fun to yank the 4L60 out in favor of an AR-5.
FABbot makes a nice little kit that should make this swap dummy proof. They use factory 4L60 bell housings and a billet adapter to mate the AR-5 to LS based engines. They also have everything else you need available on their site. I opted to buy my clutch/pressure plate/flywheel from Summit, as it was a bit cheaper.
The only other parts I ordered included factory Colorado clutch master/hydro line, ARP flywheel and pressure plate bolts, some wiring pigtails that were suggested in Jeremy's (1badI5) swap thread, and a factory console trim piece/boot.
I already had an AR-5 sitting in the basement for my Luv project. So that one will be going in the Colorado now. These things are all over the place, and can be had for $2-300 with less than 100k miles.
Here it is with the FABbot kit bolted to the front of it.
I got a set of brake/clutch pedal assemblies from the junk yard for $40, and gave them a quick spray bomb.
I also ordered a Core short throw shifter to throw in while I have this all apart. My truck gets driven pretty spiritedly, so for me it will be money well spent.
Sitting in storage, just waiting to have parts thrown at it.
