Another sound dampening question!

I've used the search function, but didn't find an answer to my question. For total coverage of doors, floor, and the rear wall, how many square feet will it take for 1 layer of fatmat/dynamat in a crew cab? I would go and measure it, but I'm stuck in a doctors office for the wife's appointment, and I figure you guys would have a quick answer.

My plan is to completely cover the inside with 1 layer, then at a later date, go back and do the roof and double, or triple up, in areas that need it. I'm doing this mainly for road noise and the stereo, but my exhaust drones like a sombitch at 65mph/~2000rpm.

Thanks for the help!

I think I used ~60 sq ft for my CC. But really, just wait until you're ready to do the whole thing with multiple layers. I put down 2-3 layers of 80mil, and IMO, one layer on the rear wall and floor pan won't give you the result you're looking for.
I tried out some stuff from home depot on my roof after installed my lightbars. In have both fatmax and dynamat I stalled...and this stuff from home depot isnmainly for roofs..but essentially the same concept. Maybe 10 bucks a roll and covered my roof ..I'll get a link after work
I will check tomorrow.

I used ballistic mat similar to dynomat but better.

I did three layers on the back wall, two layers on the floor and then two layers in the door. Outer and inner door skin. Not the roof.

Maybey invest in a new exhaust. My crappy magnaflow droned so bad all the matting never helped.

Good to know. I'll order some more!

I was looking at that too. If I could find that in bulk it would be great. I think it's waterproof roof/window adhesive flashing. It's cheap, and nearly identical to fat/dynamat.

WHAT KIND OF SACRILEGE IS THAT?!? Just kidding. I bought the truck used, so I have no idea what kind of muffler is on there (no markings on the bottom, can't see the top), but I've considered going with a 40 series FM... although the Super 44 sounds effin' sweet, but probably won't do anything to stop drone, and quite possibly end up being louder than what I have. Going by sound alone, mine sounds like the 40 series in this video, but again, I won't know until I find some kind of markings, or see the top of it to figure it out.

Thank you all for the insight!
I recommend visiting the Sound Deadener Showdown website. Yea he sells his own material now BUT there's a wealth of information on sound deadening.

I have sound deadened my doors using his methods this far.
Yeah. Here was the one I got.
Works fine, and does the job , wish I would have searched before spending a couple hundred on name brand. Oh well

Here's another that Lowes offers.

If looking for a new muffler look at borla.

They are selling cat back for our trucks for $300 bucks.

Or just buy a borla pro xs.
@un4giv3n, that's the same link I came across when researching. It got me looking at the big box stores for material. I think I'm going to use the fatmat I ordered in combination with this stuff and see what happens. At that price, I could put as many layers that would fit! It may end up sounding like a coffin after all!
@fast0ne, I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place! I love the sound of the exhaust, but you DO NOT want to drive at 65. No other cruising speed bothers me. I guess I'll see how everything works out with 900 layers of deadening material and go from there.
I understand what you are saying. But once you have had a borla exhaust it's hard to listen to anything else. No drone at all great overall sound. Dose not make your truck sound like a tractor and has a million mile warranty.

I will get you the amount of ballistic mat I used. Here is a pic of the floor.

It would be nice if Borla put up some sound clips. I can't find anything on their site. I'm sure youtube will deliver though. The only Borla that I've heard is on hotrado's video's.
The problem with YouTube vids is 1 the recording device and 2 the playback speakers.

You should see the setups borla uses to record there sound clips.

And agreed that would be nice to hear in person but due to cost not a lot of people run there mufflers on these trucks.

Others issue on YouTube is you never know what size muffler people are running. If you want best sound and less drone go with a factory length muffler.

After running a magnaflow catback exhaust and having to install a magnaflow resonator the day after installing it because of drone,it was fine on the hwy but in town always droned. Then 2 years later it was completely burnt out and starting to fail. I had borla on another car and 12 years and 200 thousand Km it still looked and sounded great. So I went back to borla after my magnaflow stuff failed and never lived to it promise.

Cool. Yeah, I know you can't trust a lot of video's on youtube because of equipment. I've been doing audio and video since I was around 15, so I see the limitations of the average video clip online.

I'd like to use my rig to get some sound from my truck, but time is hard to come by. I've got two JVC HM150's for my 3D setup. One has a Nady kick mic and the other carries a cheaper Sennheiser shotgun. I use those for capturing A/V from guns and explosions (job related), so I know I could do exhaust sounds pretty damn well. Both are designed for really high SPL, so there won't be any distorted or clipped sounds.

Where are the Borla sound clips? I didn't see it on the site.
Ok as I stated I used ballistic soundproofing.

This is the big package and I used about 3 of there packages.

As far as borla I think they only post to YouTube. I don't think they have anything on there web site.
