I have a 06 Colorado and one day i noticed the cruise control wasn't working nor were the brake lights. called the dealer and they told me it could be the brake light switch. they wanted 205.bucks to replace it. i went to my local murrays parts world paid 13.00 for a new switch looked at where the switch mounted to the pedal assy .unplugged the wire connector twisted the switch pushed the new one onto the assy no tools needed and i saved 190.00 bucks and the trouble of geting an appointmtent to fix something so trivial montess007
A perfect example of why most Members here don't rely on Dealers for maintenance. $205 is high for any Dealer though. The price for the switch at a Dealer is $12.96, so about $190 is the charge for labor? You live in Canada?
A perfect example of a person with the skill to do a repair themselves saving the labor cost and then using that savings for a quality part over the dreaded '' white box '' brand. That said you still need tools, knowledge, and physical ability.
I think there is a recall for the brake switch on are trucks but I'm not quite sure.
I just picked up a brake switch for mine and I'm hoping that solves a few issues iv been having. Kudos man!
I discovered mine was intermittently inop while following my son home after purchase of my 2010 last year. Damn near rear ended my own vehicle, with my own vehicle.
On my '09, my cruise control quit but brake lights still work. Fuse tested good. Anyone else have anything like that going on? I miss my cruise control!
Do you get the green icon on your dash when you try to engage the Cruise? Did you confirm that the CHMSL lights also work, along with the tail light brake lights.
Spent some time researching the forum and have plenty of items to check. Thank you to previous posters. I don't get the green dash light. But all the other lights work. Will update when I know something. Thanks
First thing to check is fuses and bulbs. If all of the brake lights are not working, it can cause issues with the cruise. Next in line is checking the brake light switch. Make sure it is working correctly. After that is the multi-function switch. That is a pain because it involves removing the steering wheel.
Plenty of threads to look at. Start simple and work from there.
Good on you. My first 2007 was replaced under warranty. 2nd time, I made an appt first thing in the morning, thinking it was still under warranty. $120 and a 5 hour wait. After 3 hours, I looked it up in YouTube and became absolutely livid I fell for this. 3rd time, I replaced it myself and started keeping a spare. This is over the course of 14 years. You're obviously much smarter than me, but I eventually learned.
I had that one time on my 2005. I noticed if I lifted up the brake pedal with my foot, I could get the cruise control to work. Adjusted the brake switch and never had a problem after that.
That's a good point. When installing the switch it is important to hold the brake pedal aft against the stop while pushing the switch all the way in. If the pedal is not held while installing the switch, it could be moved forward enough to cause brake dragging.
