Broken Plate Wires

3063 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cart7881
I was trying to figure out why my plate lights weren't working. I installed new bulbs checked the fuses still didn't work when I look under the truck I could see that there are two broken wires right at the connector. I was wondering do I have to solder a new connector or can I solder two wires in since its + and - wires

The license plate lights are an all together harness, I believe it is replaceable.

Here's the ACDELCO connector on amazon : connector

I cant find the harness part number. Hopefully someone else could find it.
When the wires broke on mine, Instead of replacing the harness, I just replaced the bulb connecters at the end with these:

2X T10 W5W 168 194 Light Instrument LED SMD Bulb Extension Connector Socket OT8G | eBay

I then installed a t10 led, and They snapped right into place, and I haven't touched them since.
I don't have the cash right now and was wondering if I could just solder the wires to avoid popo confrontation

If there is enough wire, then Yeah it shouldn't be a problem.
If there is enough wire extending from the connector, just solder some new wire. It probably would be a good idea to use some shrink tubing or liquid tape to protect the joint. If there isn't enough wire there to solder, you can get connectors with pigtail wires and just splice them in. The female connector w/wires is part number 15306156. The male connector is part number 154306166. Both are available from RockAuto (do a part number search). There may be more convenient sources, closer to you. This is a link to the harness assemblies, but I can't figure out which applies to you.

Note, If "push come to shove", and you need it done soon, just cut the connectors off and splice the wires together.
