Bumper/Tire Carrier Build

473 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  WV NATIVE
I started building a new rear bumper/tire carrier the other day and wanted to share my project. I hope that it helps someone with their own ambition to build one.

I spend more time over at ColoradoFans so I posted it over there.

Here is the link if anyone is interested.

That is pretty sweet. I have a design I drew for doing exactly this. One of these days!

It’s a lot of work but it seems like once you get going it goes pretty quick.

It’s taken 10 days of fabrication to get to the point I’m at with it.

I doubt I’ll build another one but I’d gladly share my parts list and all the measurements.
I have always had plans to build a swing out tire carrier, but with my current tent and kitchen setup it would just be in the way. Hopefully when I eventually upgrade to 33's I will still be able to stuff the spare in it's factory location....

I ran a 255/80r17 in the stock spare location but it was TIGHT.

So tight in fact that I had to trim down the shackle bolt because it makes contact with the tire. No real issues but the shackle touched it during its cycle.
