Cold start problem

4700 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  08Canyon
My 2005 Canyon did not start 2 times in the last week. Each time it was around zero degrees out. When the outdoor temp comes up later in the day it starts right up. I took it to the dealer after the first time it did not start. They cleaned the throttle body. Yesterday it 3 degrees out and it did not start, it just turns over. At lunch it was 18 degrees and it fired right up. I have the 5 cylinder motor. Any ideas ?

The next time you experience the no-start condition take notice to your dash lights. Is there a padlock icon illuminated? If the icon is lit up, it is passlock acting up and will not be related to cold weather.

Another easy way to help determine -when it does not start, will it start about 10 minutes later?

Thanks for the info, it will be below zero here this week. I'll see what happens. I never heard of passlock, I will wait 15min and try again next time.
You didn't mention if dealer checked your battery's charge/level...was it good?
PASSLOCK is GM's anti-theft system. It shuts off ignition to disable the vehicle from starting. It's fairly common to had random flareups. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it is possible and identified by the padlock icon. The feature disables ignition for 10 minutes I believe.

The only way it is temperature related (cold ambient) that comes to my feeble mind is a battery that is suffering internal failure. Our trucks don't like low voltage. Stupid things begin to happen.
