Chime in if you have had issues with your cylinder head on the 3.7L engines only.

We are not interested in the 3.5L issues, we all know them well.

Chime in if you have some experience/input on this subject.

Ok, I will start it off now that I have all my information.

40k miles on the 2008 Canyon 3.7L (bought it new, traded in the 04 Canyon) My truck was built 6/2007 (stamp on the frame)

Symptoms were: Rough idle and Check engine light (PO300 & 303) at idle

Just got my truck back from GMC, they reported the intake valves on #3 were not seating properly. There is a bulletin internal to GM about specific VIN #s affected to the 3.7L (cylinder head problems). My truck fell in that VIN break, along with all the troubleshooting information that lead them to replace the entire head under warranty.

I am sure that I am not the only one out there.. Hope this helps out anyone! I hope this does not spur on "panic attack" but educates any 3.7 owners to bring the truck in if your idle gets rough + CEL comes on. The head issue does apply to certain 3.7s, GM has a redesigned head to address the problem.

Funniest part is that I went through a defective cylinder head on my 2004 Canyon 3.5L... Not fun enough doing this just once! Although, GM has enough information and specialty tools that you will not be out the truck more than a day or two (much improved since the 04 went in)... :)

Any other 355Nation 3.7L owners?

mine lifters where sticking on my 07 when i had 20,000miles on it the CEL light came on and i took it in and they told me that the truck has been misfiring for some time now from what the scan said i told them that was the first time the CEL had came on so the took my truck in to replace my heads and gave me a rental and it ended up taking them 3.5 weeks to do it but they fixed it and its been good every since. i have 75,000 miles on it now.

3.5 weeks is a long time.... Unless they are bagging it too.

Apparently, I also had a manifold bolt broken for sometime (slight leak at cold start)...

So, a couple repairs happened simultaneously. New head/gasket, new manifold gasket, new manifold bolt.

How many miles traveled VS how much coolant goes missing?
Light coolant consumption would be hard to see with UV, external of the engine.

i drive ALOT....74k on my 08 it was draining coolant alot fatser at first, not so fast now

i think its going in the combustion chamber and just burning off...when its time ot do a tune up ill check out the plugs

Same problem as mine?
No, same problem as the OP's!

23,000 on my 08 and had the same problem, intake valves on #2 were not seating properly. Had the entire head replaced and no problem sence.
You hijacked this thread with a coolant leak.
We are discussing cylinder head defects, IE valves not seating properly, not coolant leaks (not determined to be in the cylinder head).

Similar but different. I have an 07 Pontiac G5 as a daily. It has a 2.2 Ecotec engine. At 42,000, I also got check engine light. Testing revealed low compression on CYL #1. They then did a leakdown test and determined it to be a leaking exhaust valve. Buick dealer (shortage of Pontiac dealers around here these days) tried to do an intake cleaning (made no sense to me) and it didn't fix. GM authorized the replacement of all 16 valves. Have had no problem since. I don't know the build date but got it in July 2007 new. Wonder if there is a common issue here?

My 08 Colorado has only 9000 miles and no engine problems (yet).
