So heres the deal, i took my '06 truck into my mechanics last weekend cause i noticed that it was idling rough. They determined that the seals on my heads were bad and i had them look up the description of the cylinder head service bulletin and they said that is what the problem was. My truck currently has 112xxx or so miles on it and the warranty expired at 100xxx. However, i did take my truck in with 99xxx miles on it to the dealership to have it checked because i noticed similar symptoms. At the time they determined it was only a bad coil. My question is: is there any chance of them honoring the warranty and doing the work? or am i screwed and looking at an expensive repair?

You can try...but if they determined at the time that a coil would solve your issue and you went another 10k without taking it back to them then its gonna be hard to get them to swing it anyway.

Best bet, motor swap to a 07, 3.7...

My family has done a lot of business over the years with a chevrolet dealer around here, gm offered to cover half of the total cost, my truck was probably at 140,000 at the time. My point is, if you've got a pretty good relationship with the dealer, it might be worth a shot.

Well in my experience the dealer wasn't the issue. It was GM. I was at 106,000 and the head issue was present. GM didn't do a damn thing about it. I did what Banditz said. Had a 3.7 from a 2007 swapped in and i'm golden. A lot of money up front but saves me in the end and gives me a lil boost in the mean time. Good luck.

Do you have a good relationship with your dealer? If so ask for a 50/50 participation. You never know.

Or swap a engine yourself if you have the abilities or buddies to do it. It's cheaper than putting a new head on.

Hour wise, for someone who know what they are doing, how long would it take to swap in a new engine?

The dealer will only be able to write up a warrenty motor swap for 11.6 hours in labor, but if its on the owners dime....its 22.1 hours of labor?

If you have the work order paperwork from when you went in the first time you can ask to speak with both the service manager and the area service rep to see if they will do what is called a "GOOD WILL" for the customer.

I have seen this done many times at no charge to the customer as all as long as you keep a cool head..

the only people that get screwed is people like me a technician who only gets paid the 11 hours when it takes 20 gm warranty doesnt pay for jack shit, i had my head replaced under warranty the day i got it home my motor was knoking, turns out a lack of oil to exhaust cam. so now im fighting with gm over who should pay for the motor i had to put in my truck . thank god i put in after hours but still took me 14 hours
