I wouldn't be doing it expecting it to pay off. Just looking at future options (built 4L60, upgraded to 65/70e, 4L80e, or 6L80e.
I'm with you on the 6 speed auto swap. They have a very high torque capacity stock (look at the HP new Corvettes and Camaros are making). So unless you go 1,000 hp turbo motor swap you should be a happy camper. This is a swap a few TBSS guys have done. I cannot remember the name of the company, but some google searching should find it. They specialize in these swaps. I contacted them prior to even ordering my 355. They think the swap is very doable in the colorado platform. But they did mention the TC issues. I'm surprised to hear the full size TC would be a problem...

It may not "pay for itself", but what mod does? It would be quicker, more fuel efficient and just plain cooler than a 4L80E swap.

This talk about going 4L80E makes me think of when people tried to talk people out of 700R4 swaps back in the day (or old school SBCs over LS swaps). I get tried and true is good. But at some point we need to move forward.

True Blue Motorsport - I assume that's who you're talking about. I already sent off an email to them earlier today ;)

Now I'd still have to find a good trans shop up here because I don't have the tools or expertise to pull this off, but I can at the least do some homework.

For the 4L80e -- would that require tunnel modifications (can't seem to find an answer for that one)?

You don't need a lot of tools to do the swap. The hardest part is the wiring and transfer case. Idk how they bolt on onto the 6l90e versus the 4l60e. I could look at my dads truck but that still doesn't tell me what spline output the transmission has.

Yeah I'm sure that's the guys True blue.. I'd love to try a 6L80E harness for someone..since I haven't done one before it would talk some trial and error..lol Yeah your biggest hurdle will be the T-case

A couple guys are running the 4L80E in a swapped V8 Colorado no one has told be they needed to modify the trans tunnel. Just new drive shaft, and tranny mount.

Current performance has done a 6L80E or 6L90E in there latest build, it was a gold Colorado with a G8 motor? This was with a E67 and they figured out the wiring for it and the 6 speed auto, I'm sure they would be cheaper then True blue..there prices are outrageous!
