I am so tired of the one tire fire on my truck. It seems like Im constantly spinning one wheel helplessly when its muddy or real wet and im pulling my trailer.

I have a 2007 3.7 with 3.73 gears. I want to get the G80. If the seach function on this site would work i might not have had to create this but oh well.

Would it be cheaper for me to buy a whole rear-end from a junkward and swap it out, or should i just buy a new G80 and have it installed? i really know nothing about this. I just know I want one! LOL Just looking for some advice on where to go about buying one and how much a shop should chrge to get one installed.

Thanks!

Probably cheaper and easier to buy a used rear end , a majority of the G80 equipped rearends you will find will probably be from a Z71 which is wider by a couple of inches I think. Someone else here has done the swap this way.
The G80 will definetly cure your one wheeler peeler issues.

your planning on lifting, the larger/grippier tires will help quite a bit with this. also if you get a whole rear end you and a buddy could do the swap in a driveway. changing out the gearing is more of a hassle.

i too have no g80....and it sucks. wet roads = easy on the gas or spinning at every stop. truck cant go for shit in the snow without being put into 4wd.

too bad your so far away or i'd ask if you wanted to swap wheels/tires/lift lol

Mileage is a big factor to consider, however as stated most reputable parts yards will give you some warranty. You will know pretty quick once it's installed if it has issues. Check the input yoke for excessive play, as well the axleshafts. Some small lateral play is normal. Pull the cover and drain the oil, check for chips and chunks. It is a fairly low risk transaction. And easy driveway swap. heck you can even swap your drums and brakes over as well.

OK good info thanks! One more thing to consider I only have 36k miles, so I still have 65k miles and 2 years left on my 100k drivetrain warranty. I know if I swap rear-ends thats gone, but what about adding a G80? will that void my warranty?

I have a G80, and I go to do a burnout and CLUNK! I have posi. I heard they dont hold up too well, but I would say try on here or a junkyard, probably your best bet.

GOOD LUCK!
Did yours come with a G80, or did you buy it and install it?

Burnouts are not the recommended methods of engaging a locker,,,, wheels slips, back off gas a bit and gently reapply gas till engagment happens. I am not to aware of any stock sized applications that will hold up to repeated thrashing like this.

Thinking the H3s have an 8.5 inch ring gear. I have 55000 miles on mine of snowplowing/towing/fishing trips with never and issue. I have had ARB's/Detroits/TrueTracs, the G80 is a pretty decent rearend for a stock truck.

Try to find a Z85 that had the G80...the sticker code is in the glovebox. I say this because if I'm not mistaken, the Z71 trucks have a rearend that's wider by two inches, and two 1" spacers to bring the front wheels out to match the rear axle.

Or you could just find someone with a Z85 with a G80 (Me), and get the Vin off of them and Take it to the dealer for the correct part...
