fan blades barely hitting radiator line

1108 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  08Canyon
so ive put a body lift on my truck and did not buy a kit so i am not running the drop brackets for the radiator. the only issue i have is the the blades on my fan are BARLEY hitting a metal line coming out of the bottom driver ride of the raditor.

the question here is how do i deal with this? is there a makeshift way i can drop my radiator a little bit? Would sanding down the corners of the blades be a terrible idea? it is literally barely hitting the line, but it is annoying and im sure it will do nothing but get worse if i do nothing about it.

Get more power by switching to a flex-a-lite 180 or a sepermod fan and loose the stock fan.
The first thing you need to do is relocate and lower the rad and keep it even with the top of the motor.
The water pumps in our trucks are minimal and have a hard time pushing the coolant up and against gravity.

1/5" BL are ok but marginal.
3" BL, rad needs to be lowered.
DO NOT alter your fan.

Your fan is balanced....any alterations will make the fan become unbalanced and will wobble and cause additional problems (like damaging your water pump).
DO what Supermod said.......he knows this stuff like breathing.

For and efan......the Flex a Lite 180 is ok, it does the job, but the Supermod fan is the way to go. I know this because I converted from a 180 to the Supermod eFan last summer

its 2" BL. the extra .5" make a big differnece? if so, where can i get a hold of these brackets other than a kit? not much luck finding them outside of a kit.

im wondering if this is already occured... this did not happen when the lift was first done, i heard it VERY faintly and looked for it until i realized what was happening....well yesterday i replaced my upper rad hose and the when i ran the truck to running temp, it was much louder, and consistent...very consistent. with the truck off only one blade BARELY hits this line, but with it running, it sounds like they all hit
even without the brackets i would imagine theres a way to modify the stock brackets to drop the rad??? i havent looked too hardcore at it to be honest. have any of you though/tried this before?
conclusion: modified the stock radiator brackets to lower the rad about 2". dealt with the original issue of the fan blades and took the strain that I was unaware of off the water pump
What was the original issue of the fan? In addition to lowering the radiator, what did you do?
You stated that you fixed the original issue and removed water pump strain.

the very tips of the blades were tapping on a line coming from the back of the radiator...i was trying to get by without dropping the rad because im a slackass  but then was told about the strain on the water pump so i dropped it anyway. once the rad was dropped, the fan blades no longer reached that line. and i also put my lower shroud back in stock position so it all worked out.

other than lowering the rad, i did nothing.
The parts they give you to drop the radiator with the pa body lift are shit. I had them and didn't use em.
Okay gotcha. The way it was worded I read it as you did extra work.

I don't think there was a strain on the pump....The way I read the part about coolant is that by design, there is inadequate flow to the top of the radiator.

Either way, you sound to be in good condition. You may even run a little cooler now with the shroud in place to actually draw in air. As well as having adequate coverage with the fan.

Nice job.
