I think your fine as the front diff goes . However , if you suspect the difficulty in disengaging last winter was due to incorrect fluid wouldn't you be duplicating the same error by adding a non approved fluid yourself ? Hey , not trying to a smart a$$ but you have a really low mileage truck and I would hate to see you potentially cause damage to it .

In this case I'm just stating what the manufacturer , GM , specifies . If I were a chemical engineer I might be able to give a technical explanation so I yield to the guys that are and go with them on specifics for lubricants . If I were to change the fluid in the diff of my truck I would add the Delvac and a new pan gasket and be set for at least another 60,000 - 100,000 miles unless the pinion seal or axle seals fail . But that's just me . For a technical explanation you could call the tech number of Amsoil or Valvoline and ask an expert .
